What am I missing?

Discussions about the new generations of bands influenced by '80s New Wave and Postpunk

What am I missing?

Postby Borneojimy » Wed Nov 30, 2005 4:21 am

I'm sure there are plenty of next wave bands that I'm missing out on, so I'm coming to your, my fellow NWOers for some recommendations. A few newer bands that I like include: the Epoxies, the Briefs, Bloc Party, Futureheads, Kaiser Chiefs, & Britsh sea Power. Stuff like Interpol & Coldplay really doesn't do much for me. What should I check into?

Do you like any NO Wave? There are lots of underground bands currently mining that sort of territory.

As for "next" wave, a term which means nothing to me, I've heard good things about TV on the Radio but I've not heard them.

I really hate most current music, including all the bands people here keep describing as "next" wave.

Yep, I like plenty of no wave & post punk stuff as well. Forgot all about the A Frames, Division of Laura Lee & Hot Hot Heat, all great bands. Thanks for the info, I'll check some of the others out.

Something like Kid 606 is pretty cool. Very whacky and even though it's not a new technique, you don't hear that kind of thing over the radio. I'd also recommend current popular acts that don't get enough airplay, such as LCD Sound System, San Ilya, Thievery Corporation, Stereophonic Space Sound, and poseurs like The Faint and Ladytron. Get some cds on theremin muzak.

What does the * after Stellastar indicate?
I like this band very much, the little I have heard, and think they are one of the few bands that can truly be called new new wave.

I have no idea - probably just a little visual gimmick or something. Rock!

I know this would probably fit better into a thread on another board here, but is anyone interested in trading mixes of newer bands?

I interviewed them a few months ago and you're right. Just a visual gimmick. The only disconcerting thing about them is that their lead singer looks about 10 years old in person. [:D]
