Looking for Dover-Calais (English ver.), by Style

Postby WaverBoy » Thu Jan 26, 2006 3:23 am

Way back in '87, a Finnish exchange student gave me this tape a friend of his sent him, and on it was this song called Dover-Calais, by a Swedish outfit called Style, also known as Freestyle (no relation to the electrofunk freestyle group of the same name). The only other song I've found by them is Telephone, which is excellent. I've since found Dover-Calais, both regular and extended versions, but only in Swedish. Does anyone have the English version? The chorus is as follows:

You were there by my side
We were leaving with the tide
On the ferry ride of Dover-Calais
As we sailed on to France
We confirmed our romance
On that summer night on Dover-Calais

Here's what I've got by these guys:

Dover-Calais (Swedish Version)
http://s9.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=13URG ... J205GC9DC4

Dover-Calais (Extended Swedish Version)
http://s9.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1IPMS ... FV4EOC4DNJ

Telephone (Original 12" Version)
http://s9.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=01KFP ... UGH8XGL6JR

Enjoy, and I hope some kind soul out there can help me with the English version of DC...

Wow! I've been trying to find out who sang the song "telephone" forever. For some reason i thought it was by human league but i found out that wasn't the case. Thanks!

Aw, I thought you wuz gonna tell me you had my song... [:(]

But glad you finally found out the name of the mystery artist! [:)]

They were Freestyle from '80 to '83, and Style from '83 to '88.

Here's a web page I found for them:

http://web.telia.com/~u51106363/freestyle/

And their discography:

A pity it's in Swedish...well, a pity for us non-Swedish speakers, at any rate...

So, it's eight years later...I don't suppose any of you kind souls out there have managed to track down the English version of this song...? Here's the record details:

I can't find it for sale anywhere online, or else I'd buy it; I can only find the Swedish version.

Hey WaverBoy!!

Well, I used to have a few New Wave penpals from Sweden and they sent me a whole whack of Style/Freestyle CDs, and I went through ALL of them and unfortunately, every version I have is in Swedish - no English, sorry. However, I'd LOVE to hear the English version, so if you ever do find it, please let me know! :)
