Is it me, or is MP3 sharnig here skyrocketing?

Discuss hard-to-find or out-of-print New Wave and '80s Alternative, and share a few songs along the way.
NOTE: requesting songs that are entirely unrelated to the genres discussed here or easily found on CD is strongly discouraged and posts will be enforced as needed.

It seems like there are now a TON of mp3s to download off this forum section lately, and I love it.

Keep up the good work. Yay for music. Thankfully this has happened for the Soulseek wells have run dry lately.

All I ask is if you request something, blurt out that email address of yours in the post, to save a step or 2. :)

Definately. Though I wonder what Mike's take on this. Does this expose the NWO to possible greater scrutiny by the RIAA dipshits?

Just sharing the love of obscure and off the beaten path music!
Might be a good idea to delete your posted links after a certain period of time or when they expire.

Wow, I've noticed too during the last couple of weeks that song sharing here has definitely skyrocketed. As far as the RIAA goes, right now they seem to have bigger fish to fry with the P2P networks. I think the vast majority of songs being shared here are a little too obscure for the RIAA to worry about. We still should be careful about what we post here because it could get out of hand with too many "commonly" found tunes. And, that could eventually catch someone's attention.

I'm loving this. Has everybody checked out the stuff mskremember has been posting (erroneously?) in the compilations forum? Lots of great stuff.

If the songs are posted with yousendit.com I don't think Mike has anything to worry about. It's yousendit's job to monitor what they are essentially hosting for download. They do sometimes delete files. Mike is providing the forum and it's users are providing the links to a server that is off Mike's site. There's no way Mike can be held liable for off site links.

Now if you are hosting the files on your own site's server (like I am on my mp3 site) than you are liable but there are too many of us serving too little for them to worry about it.

I'd love to share lots of songs that are readily available on CD that I know some people might enjoy but maybe haven't discovered yet but I don't want to take any chances and incur the wrath of the powers that be, so I tend not to post them, however tempting it might be. If a CD is out of print, especially for a few years, AND, especially if it is an obscure foreign import (and out of print) I don't see anything wrong with offering it to our members. I think it has been a long-standing policy here at the Outpost however, that vinyl-only tracks are accepted, as it should be.

This whole posting links thing is generally fine by me, since they aren't hosted on my site and they eventually "evaporate" after a certain amount of time has passed (e.g., yousendit links).

I'm enjoying a lot of the downloads, but man is it becoming a full-time job![;)]

mskremember - are you sharing/trading mp3s? Then this forum is the place for them. I realize that you are in effect making mini-compilations by posting them all at once and that might be why you post them there.

I always thought (by looking at the previous posts) that the compilations forum was to discuss compilations that are available on vinyl or CD.

I might be wrong but you will find that you get a better response by posting your links here where more people visit than in the compilations forum that gets less traffic.

The most people I seen sharing their mp3s collection on the wave hub DC++ at most is 10 to 15 members from here. Because of this I have stop using DC++ and run soulseek 24/7 since this where I get the most downloads and request for downloads.

Hey Siouxmoux, I'm on Soulseek everynight but I haven't seen your tag come up. Are you under Siouxmoux?
