Recording from vinyl questions.

For the first time in almost 20 years my vinyl collection is all under one roof. I put most of it in alphabetical order. In the end I want to end of with standard CD's (not mp3 cd's) I'm ready to burn. Here's my questions.

1. What software do you use to record with? (I'm on a Mac but would like to know what you use if you are on Windows too.)
2. What software provides filters to reduce crackels & snaps and do they work without effecting dynamic range?
3. What software do you use to edit the files?
4. Do you record to mp3, AIFF or another format?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I don't want to do it twice.

Music Match Jukebox is a good cheap recording utility and looks up the album cover for you and automaticaly rips it to mp3 and when you burn it, it automaticaly reconverts it for you, and has a little clean up program. Mp3 is how you want to rip it and st

I use SoundForge for recording & editing and primarily Steinberg Declicker DX plugin for cleanup. I use 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo WAV format, which will record directly to Audio CD.

I'm a Mac user who is currently archiving my vinyl to DVD.

1. I am using CD Spin Doctor 2 (comes with Roxio's Toast 6), which has worked well for me.

2. I don't like the filters they use because the final recording sounds mechanic

Sound Forge does work fine... You can use their click and crackle remover plugin too...

I have an iPod too, but I got myself a nice expensive Marantz stereo set-up last year and like the fact that the Squeezebox has digital outs. The sound quality is awesome. Plus, I only have a 5 GB iPod and have to change songs regularly
