SHARE: Cutting Edge - The Complete Collection (1983-1984)

One of my favorite UK synthpop bands from the early eighties who never got enough attention were Cutting Edge. They released 3 singles between 1983 and 1984 on MCA, but sadly never made an album. Cutting Edge was fronted by Matthew Nelmes and also featured Andy Ritchie and Ian Nicole. I wish these guys made more music!

Here's the one video of them performing that I could find.

Cutting Edge - Lonesome Cowboy

They also covered the Original Mirrors track "Dancing With The Rebels"

Now that's called scraping the bottom of the barrel. Judging by the video, a rare breed of the 1980s band that's painful to both listen to and look at. How can this generate any kind of positive emotional responce is beyond me. Well, actually there's one positive - that those goons and their tuneless drivel "never got enough attention". How can people call Eighties the decade of the bad taste?! What an insult!

And what's so "synthpop" about these? Symmons drums and something resembling a synthesizer? Come on, be more realistic with your descriptions - a simpleminded, hollow and exploitative teenybop (and not even a good one!) is much more near the mark.

Rarely has ten minutes of my life been spent so foolishly, with no gain of any sort :(

Sheeesh! Sorry you didn't like them. I'm not a huge fan of Lonesome Cowboy, but I do quite like Country Boy, and their b-sides are purely synthpop to me, and anyone who has the sense to cover Original Mirrors is a-ok with me. I stand by my description and opinion of the band. Sorry to have wasted your time.

Thanks for sharing Dom and PS does make a good point - they are awful. That first video when they appear on Crackerjack (UK kids TV show) is testimony to how good their record label's promotion department is.

Hey guys--

I screwed up! Somehow instead of the 7" version of "Dancing With The Rebels" I included a shortened remix of the track which isn't technically the 12" version or the 7" version. Anyway, if you downloaded the collection and want the correct track, I've uploaded it separately here:

Cutting Edge - Dancing With The Rebels (7" version)
https://www.mediafire.com/?a3i6dbquja4r7rg

And I've reuploaded the collection with the proper tracklist, if you haven't had a chance to download it yet.

The Complete Cutting Edge Collection (2nd Try)

And finally, for the Cutting Edge doubters out there, this is my favorite track from the band. It wasn't on Youtube, so I just uploaded it. To me, this track sounds like Oingo Boingo covering Rio era Duran Duran with a more new romantic vocalist. (I'm not saying these guys are Duran or Boingo quality... I just see their influence on the band) I get that not everyone will like what I share, but I really DO like Cutting Edge. Give this track a try...

Cutting Edge - Every Time (1984)

Enjoy!

A distinct improvement - from awful to average.

It's nice enough but aping Duran Duran wouldn't have done them any favours.
