Here’s another beauty. Back in the ‘90s in Manila, this interesting bootleg new wave series was released.

Indie 1

Indie 2
https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Ris ... se/2967861

Indie 3
https://www.discogs.com/Various-War-Of- ... se/2967847

What made the “Indie” series stand out was the unique remixes it had of new wave anthems, quite unlike the other bootleg compilations that typically featured tracks from official album and 12-inch releases. The only other series that I know of that had personalized versions of the songs is the 4-volume Spiral Tribe series which I hope to share here next time.

Anyway, this “Indie” series was brought back to life (presumably from the same people that originally issued it) early this year. It has been updated, remastered (24-Bit ADD?), repackaged, and renamed as “And God Created Indie Trilogy (20th Anniversary Issue).” Pressed in Japan it states but I highly doubt that. Still paid for it though :D

Though the track list has a few typos and errors, it’s the music that counts. Enjoy.

Wow, you're really hitting the Filipino scene - I've heard these before, and most of these mixes are solid, just as in The Spiral Tribe series. Finyl Edits are much more hit and miss.

I didn't know there was a 20th anniversary reissue, but I agree with your evaluation on the country - if it says Japan, that's probably not true. My guess (without having seen your download yet) is that it would either be the Phillipines or Russia/Ukraine. Regular issues of these series (and a few others) have popped up on Ebay from a Phillipines-based seller for years, so I assumed that either the original had extra ones dumped, the seller is the original bootlegger, or he bootlegged the bootleg.

A Filipino blogger posted about these years ago. For more information:

Thanks again for posting some really rare things.

EDIT: And for those who don't know - and I only found this out a few years ago - there was a HUGE breakout of "lost" 80s songs in a couple spots during the 90s, where songs that weren't hits initially became serious cult hits. In England, the Motown-knockoffs of the 60s formed a huge section of the Northern Soul scene of the 70s and 80s. In Spain, check out the Maxi Pop series by Contrasena, including a pre-Bush Gavin Rossdale in Midnight with "Run With You" - I never liked Bush, but love that song. In the Phillipines, radio stations would re-title or white-label their "finds" so that others didn't know what they were. Seona Dancing and Fra Lippo Lippi had HUGE hits, among others, and I think Fra Lippo Lippi played multiple nights at the stadium down there? And the Three O'Clock had a big hit with "On Paper", covered by local group Cherry Cornflakes, if memory serves me right...their singer has an almost twee-pop meets Sundays sound to her.

A few good fanmade mixes on those. Must admit I deleted most of them but YMMV.

Some random observations:

Shriekback’s “Nemesis” here is just a copy of the official “Nemesis (Extended)” (not to be confused with “Nemesis (Arch-Deviant Mix)”) with a few extra bits added to very end.

Men Without Hats “Pop Goes the World” is very nice, the extra minute feels natural.

I’d like to know more about the version of “Love Will Tear Us Apart” that appears here; it is a female vocal, no band is credited.

The Cure’s “Arab” and The Smith’s “Coma” here take what were rather short songs and just repeat their content twice to make them longer. Not too creative.

Thanks for sharing. It's a very interesting 3 cd compilation of home made remixes
only a question: who's singing "in a Big Country"? that version it's pretty lame
The Miranda Stanton rendition of Joy division's "LWTUA" is decent imho

Thanks again
Are you going to start screwing over Redo like you screwed over MSK with your endless requests? what an idiot you turned out to be MATT
