I heard long time ago that Vinny Vero had requested to have ABC's back catalogue reissued with plenty of bonus tracks. Does anyone know if that's happening ? Isn't all their 80s stuff owned by Universal which are pretty difficult to deal with?

He was teasing an Abracadabra reissue a while back.

Blank & Jones also at one point wanted to release an entire ABC cd as part of their So80s collection but were promptly denied by Universal. Instead only a couple of remixes were permitted on their comps. I don’t get it. A proper ABC reissue campaign could definitely be appreciated where the following could appear:

1. Alphabet Soup (7”)
2. The Look Of Love (US Remix)
3. How To Be A Millionaire (UK 7”)
4. How To Be A Zillionaire (Nickel & Dime)
5. Ocean Blue (Pacific Mix)
6. When Smokey Sings (7”)
7. When Smokey Sings (Detroit Mix)
8. The Night You Murdered Love (Radio Edit)
9. King Without A Crown (7”)

Some of the above mentioned tracks are available on other CDs , but an official reissue of their albums this time complete with everything should happen.

Yeah, I went down that road when I made my super deluxe version of Zillionaire, and my friend and I pitched it also.

Martin is very forward looking, and does not want to be bothered with past releases (although he has done Lexicon of Love to death).

I have the German 12 Inch of The Night You Murdered Love.
It has a shorter version on the B-side with a 4:12 length. Putting them side by side in Audition, it does seem to just be an edit of the album version from the break onward (~2:52). It is definitely no remix so it will be interesting the hear if it that actually exists.

Here is the version on the German 12 Inch:

The version at 4:12 min was a promo edit or a radio edit that was used for the video as well. It has yet to appear on CD. It's strange that ABC released both When Smokey Sings and King Without A Crown as CD singles but not TNYML.

Turns out I had the Gold Text version of the limited When Smokey Sings,
so i don't need to wait for the Black Text version to be shipped to me.

I can't tell any difference at all in the track. I've compared it to the edit,
and another version.

I'll double check, and if there is a difference, i'll post it.

Discogs says

It took me a little while to see what you meant. The string plucks aren't used throughout, but they are used differently. In the album version, the 2nd verse ('Elegance in eloquence...') begins with a burst of brass then plucked strings come in after the word 'symphonies'. In this mix, the brass burst isn't there and the strings come in right at the start of the verse. There might be other differences too.
I checked other formats of the single and several ABC compilations and can't find this mix anywhere else.
Well spotted!

They seem to have used that alternative version when they were on Top of the Pops

Ok i get it you're right. I just confused the 7" with the bit where Martin sings I Need You So Bad , I Need You So Bad followed by the sax solo.
