SHARE: The Unknown Beauty Of The 80's Vol. 261

Today I present to you the next Volume in my continuing series. The past few weeks of the new year I deliberately took a break to see if I still wanted to continue this series or call it a day. But I soon found out that the hunger to discover "new" eighties new wave orientated tunes is still there. I am still hopelessly behind with archiving my digital library, and every search in Discogs led to new names and new music. Sometimes it feels like a day job to me, but one I love. I have no clue yet where this quest will lead me to concerning the amount of volumes for this year, although I have planned a huge connection one for Volume 275. So to start of the new bunch of additions I present to you:

The Adrian Borland Connection

I could have written an introduction to this compilation, but the wiki-page of Adrian is quite impressive and complete. So read the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Borland while listening to this compilation.

I once met Adrian somewhere around 1988/89 in a pub in Haarlem (his manager Rob Acda is from Haarlem) and had a nice conversation with him. By then he already was very depressed and was not averse to a glass or two, although he would kept very creative up ‘till his suicide in 1999.

The connection with Haarlem is still there nowadays, since the Haarlem record store Sounds, what’s in the name, releases material of Adrian and The Sound on a regular base.

This compilation is to the man who never had the success he was longing for, which, to my opinion, he deserved more then he got during his lifetime.

Concerning the tracks. From every band Adrian played in, a song is featured except The Crazies and The Outsiders; The Sound predecessors. Besides that he produced several bands during the 80’s and early 90’s and wrote songs for others, which I have covered as well.

The tracklist:

01. Adrian Borland And The Citizens - Light The Sky (2:41) #*$!^
02. Steve Lake - Life Of Riley (4:55) #
03. Annabel Lamb - Heartland (3:22) #*
04. The Beautiful Losers - Late Night Show (4:16) #
05. Dole - Slumberland (4:23) #
06. The Sound - Winter (4:19) *$!^
07. Cassell Webb - Wandering Ones (6:18) *
08. The Witch Trials - Humanoids From The Deep (6:54) *$!
09. Fixed Up - Psysical World (3:07) *
10. Red Harvest - Murder (3:16) #!
11. Into Paradise - The Pleasure Is Over (3:11) #
12. Happy Hate Me Nots - Resistance (2:36) *
13. Second Layer - State Of Emergency (4:32) *$!
14. Felt - Get Out Of My Mirror (2:31) #
15. The Servants - She's Always Hiding (3:11) #!^
16. Adrian Borland - Rogue Beauty (3:17) *#$!^
17. The Pollen - Nurturing Desire (5:07) #
18. Honolulu Mountain Daffodils - Tequila Dementia (11:29) #S!^

A small note: normally I try not to present a track a second time on one of my compilations (I will certainly go through the whole series this year and present a replacement for the doubles), but for this one I had to make an exception, since Heartland was the only song of Annabel Lamb written by Adrian Borland, although already featured on Volume 52.

For surely this does not mean I will be presenting a volume each week on a regular base. I am taking the time, and when it feels like one is ready, it will be published on a Friday.

Up for one week. Enjoy!

Thanks Ris
Tragic end to such a great talent. Total Recall remains a favourite in that genre, so I look forward to exploring these.

Happy to hear you still enjoy doing this, your compilations are what keep me coming back. I thought you had retired for sure so I've missed one of your submissions for the first time in four years! Still, it's a win for me and everyone else that we'll see your series from time to time. Thanks again Rissan!
