Recent Rare Record Rips

...gotta love that alliteration! I've been in the process of ripping a lot of my records with the intent of putting them on the hub (which I'll be doing this afternoon). But with so many members sharing so many files, there's a LOT of great stuff to choose from, so I wanted to do something to single out some of the better ones I've ripped. Because what good are these songs if nobody gets to hear them? These files will only be up for a week.

Outlook-She's a Star (excellent female-fronted synthpop)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

Fragile Friends-No Good in Our Goodbye (Catchy new wave. I ripped this record for NWO member Ocean, and figured I'd share the love!
(link expired... check out the hub!)

Jacket Weather-I Would Dream (keyboard-laden new wave/synthpop with cold vocals)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

Jacket Weather-Markers (I like these guys so much, and their songs are so short, that I figured I'd share another...)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

Mood School-Searching (catchy New Order-esque new wave)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

Loveland-When You Dress Up (like Depeche Mode and Anything Box? Well, you'll like this, then)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

...and there you have it. More will be ripped soon, and the full albums/EPs of these songs will be on the hub shortly. And anyone else who wants to share their stuff here, feel free to do so! (anyone can share files for a week by sending an email to themselves using www.yousendit.com and then copying and pasting the link they get - pretty useful!)

This is cool, but don't forget to tag those mp3s!

This is what I've been meaning to do, and I got a small start with Michele Jordana's 1st side.

Yeah, I'm usually pretty bad at tagging the tracks I rip. It's not that it takes a long time or anything, I just forget.

Goutroy, very cool rips, especially the Jacket Weather one! If that's from the Jacket Weather 1983 EP, is there ANY chance of getting the other 3 tracks - River Sleeps, Trust, and Must Be West?? I would gladly try to reciprocate in any way I could! [:p][:p][:p]

Sometimes you totally forget about a song and a place you heard it. Two of these really took me back! I haven't thought about either in many years.

Loveland - When You Dress Up, I remember being out at a club & loving this, but never knew who did it.

Outlook - She's a Star. I heard it once, maybe it was on a video show, or Night Flight, maybe it was in a movie. It's another song I liked & never knew who did it - and probably never heard it again.

Thank you SO much for these!!!

Awesome, I'm glad people like the songs! I left my computer on the hub while I'm at work today, in case anyone's interested.

WolverineSyr - Wow, TWO lost songs, I'm happy to help!

Blir - Yes, those Jacket Weather songs were indeed from the 1983 EP. And actually, there are four other tracks:

Duuuuude! These are freakin awesome. Thanks! It's rare that something so so rare is this good - I mean, if it was any good, it would have picked up some, tiny, ANY following I figure. With these guys, there's not a stitch of info anywhere on the 'net. I just vaguely remember hearing them a long long time ago. Do you have any background info? All I know is that this was from 1983. Kinda reminds of proto-Cake ala The Distance.

As far as Jacket Weather goes, there is an insert that contains this information:
Timothy Gassen: keyboards, vocals, graphics
Debra Dickey: keyboards
engineered by Allen Moore at Cerius Studios, Phoenix, AZ.

Address:
Jacket Weather
1974 Colingsworth Rd
Columbus, OH 43221

This record was from the first pressing, limited to 500 copies on Iconoclast Records in 1983.

Have any more tracks from Outlook? I like that band.

Here's the only other Outlook song I have, called "It Doesn't Matter" (actually the other side of the 7" with "She's a Star")
(link expired... check out the hub!)

And a couple other recent rips of bands I love:

Fade to Black-Forward From Hell (SF deathrock/synth band from the 80s)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

One Two Three-Runaway (reminiscent of Human League, no?)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

My Sin-You End Up Swimming (SF goth/wave band. And if anyone happens to have any info on them - band members, etc, please let me know!)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

Seven Red Seven-Thinking of You (The thread about 7r7 made me want to rip this cd to share with everyone. I remember dancing to this synthpop classic at The Cactus Club in San Jose about 10 years ago)
(link expired... check out the hub!)

I'm on the hub (goutroy, natch) if anyone wants to check out other stuff I have!

Also, per Jacket Weather - I did a little research and found that Timothy Gassen is/was in the popular underground garage band Marshmallow Overcoat (at times with Debra Dickey), and he wrote a seminal book about garage rock. I found an email address for him and sent him a message giving my praise and inquiring about any demos/other releases. I'll post any interesting information here.

Thanks for putting them up goutroy. I like being able to sample some of this stuff. I checked out your folders on the hub - really great stuff! Keep it coming.
