Rare New Wave Kult Klassix Series Vols. 01-19

Postby NoHo » Fri May 21, 2004 5:42 am

Members: This is my first post.

DISCLAIMER

There has been lament regarding lack of availability of many
tracks on CD below. As a service, I wanted to call your
attention to the existence of this series.

Yes, they are gray market, however, they are also readily
available for those interested. To my mind, in this context,
bootleg status is irrelevant.

It is not a matter of stealing from the artists. In fact,
many of the performers have sanctioned the appearance and
historical preservation of their efforts, with the caveat
that the volume of 'unit shifting' remains under the radar
so as not to attract the (belated) attention of (otherwise
indifferent) label management.

Quite an irony, the desire for recognition and appreciation
of their talents leading to wink-wink-nudge-nudge under the
table "licensing" agreements but only if not TOO many people
become appreciative.

In Other Words: "We won't lift a finger until you show us
we can make a buck off this obscuro crap then we'll go back
and harass those who showed us there was a market for this
obscuro crap."

I am a capitalist, yet there are times when strict
marketplace considerations can be ethically disregarded.

A combination of indifference, incompetence and borderline
criminal neglect has contributed to this sad state of affairs;
that is, crucial tracks and versions thereof have fallen through
the cracks.

Bottom Line: whatever the bumbling antics (or rational economic
decisions) of those holding the rights to these songs may be,
many of the tracks in this series will still be providing
enjoyment long after the people responsible for withholding
them from the listener have faded into oblivion.

From my tastes, here are just a few examples of Label / Artist
idiocy and marketplace indifference contributing to the need
for this series and ones similar:

1) early Ministry. 'Nuff said.

2) Twist of Shadows era Xymox remixes, b-sides.

3) Secession, as a practical matter, unavailable.

Each of you has your own axes to grind in this regard, I'm sure.

The majority of the tracks below are (as of this writing) not on
officially sanctioned compilations or reissues in this form, to
my knowledge.

WHEN they are, I will purchase them (again) in those forms.

Within reason. I am NOT going to purchase (to use another
example) a butchered, redundant 2CD "Greatest Rehash" just to
get the officially sanctioned SATB Glamour mix of Dazzle.

Janet and the Icebergs will be retired AFTER they reissue
the original albums RIGHT.

Translation: ONLY IF they aren't lame rip-offs.

As with any comp series, a good % are useless but there are
also ESSENTIAL tracks I prefer to have as CD audio quality
rather than downloading them as MP3s.

If I could pull up Amazon or GEMM and have it be a REASONABLY
easy process to obtain some of these songs, I will / would do
so.

Enough clarification; scan the below and make your own
determinations.

Um.... huh?

Let me see if i can translate.

1. I've made a bunch of CD-R compilations of songs that, for the most part, are not commercially available on CD (or at least weren't when I made these CDs)

2. I'm selling them because I'd like to make a

I agree.

While I have your attention, do you know the status of the following track:

Maurice and the Cliches - Soft Core

Wondering if this will ever show up in a CD quality format.

Thanks.

I totally agree. This forum is about helping each other out. I just made a cd up for someone here who was looking for the Harry Kakoulli's Sugar Daddy and I had it on cd. I sent it out to him and didn't ask him for a dime. Hopefully someone will do the
