For those slogging through with Direct Connect, you might want to check out this other client. I've been trying out ShakesPeer with good success: http://shakespeer.sourceforge.net/

It's very different from the crappy DC++ port we've been using...kinda disorienting at first, but I think you'll get used to it quickly. Some notable features:

- Mac conforming Aqua interface - very much like iTunes
- You have access to various hub, download, user, search, chat, etc panels on the narrower left Navigation column and then a Main info column on the right, just like iTunes.
- You can set different passwords, user names, and descriptions for each hub in prefs.
- New chats and other activities are highlighted in the Navigator so you know if new things have popped up
- Chats and the main windows don't pop up to the front - good for privacy if you have peering eyes around
- Much better control of the orgy of windows that DC++ can become
- Seperate Queue and Download panels for greater clarity
- Mac users can now refresh their shares either manually or on a schedule
- Seems more stable, quicker, and less prone to appear make your computer sluggish
- This one is the Biggie! PC users can now see your shared slots so there's no risk of getting kicked for not having slots

The only downside seems to be that it takes a LONG time for it to hash all your files and show the shares. This is a one-time deal though and it just runs in the background, refreshing your totals as it goes.

Good luck! Remember, if you're going to try it, give it a nice fair shake - like I said, it's an adjustment from DC++ but the re-orientation will be well worth it IMHO.

Oh, AND my transfers seem faster. I always had a feeling DC wasn't making good use of bandwith.

So I downloaded this and everytime I try and connect it tells me the "operation timed out." Can you run me through the steps on how to get this to work? Thanks!

Which hub are you trying to get onto? First try to connect to any one of the public hubs that are in the default list. The New Wave Hub requires registration. Pleae email Tiger_MN or Wolverine.

or simply get a PC and connect in minutes without having to scour the planet for software that actually works.

Fantastic advice. No, really. Your intolerance for Mac users is completely original and not the least bit stale.

I will email one of those people soon and mess around with this thing for more than 10 minutes. It looks very user friendly and I can't wait to get on it. Thank you!
