Really Rare 'Pet Shop Boys' Song

Postby asadachi » Mon Nov 07, 2005 4:22 pm

The very first song I ever heard by the Pet Shop Boys was an eerie-sounding new-wavey song called "West End Girls."

Soon after came the "disco" version of that song, the one that appeared on all subsequent albums and has pretty much left its mark in the gay-dance lexicon of bar music. The song has been remixed so many times since then, we've all heard it a million times.

But what ever happened to that original, non-dance 'West End Girls'? I can honestly say I've never heard it since 1986. Would anyone know where I could find it? Or even better, could someone email it to me at scruffysf@gmail.com ?

Thanks!

Here's the first version I ever heard on KROQ in SoCal.
Lemme know if this is it.

Yes that's it! A bit more eerie than the souped-up disco version, isn't it?

Thanks man, you're great!
Peace. Danny

Glad someone else (besides me) has that original version to share.[8D]
Now if I could only get the @#$% <a href="http://www.nwoutpost.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8944" target="blank">B-side</a> of that very same release!...[V]

Perhaps a niggling point of clarification. The version I heard on the radio ended soon after a glass break sound and a quick fade. The radio version may actually have been this ~4:51 long edit rather than the full 7:51 single. [:I]

According to allmusic the version of West End Girls on Please is 4:45. The version that djsanti so kindly posted is 7:51 and definitly sounds like an extended dance track -- I've never heard this particular version with the glass break. The version I have in my mp3 player is exactly 4:00, probably the "oh so user friendly" radio edit I would guess, which I actually prefer, as it's the version I heard back in 1986.

Lists all the versions of West End Girls - looks like the 7:51 version has been included in at least 5 different releases.
