Newbie bearing gifts and requests

Discuss hard-to-find or out-of-print New Wave and '80s Alternative, and share a few songs along the way.

Newbie bearing gifts and requests

Postby Tad Ghostal » Sat Dec 03, 2005 6:10 am

I stumbled on this site a few months ago when I was Googling a couple of songs that I eventually found on ebay, but only recently found the this message board. What a great spot on the internets! The topics and songs I've seen talked about a swapped here are scratching itches I didn't know I even had anymore!
I'm from the NYC area, and remember the heyday of WLIR and the Screamers of the week like it was just... 25 years ago(!)- Heck i remember when WPIX in New York was a New Wave station in the late '70's.
Anyway - on with the show: I've got some requests for some songs that I haven't heard in forever, or have been dying to get my hands on for even longer. But first, the offerings. I've posted on yousendit a handful now, and will post more in a few days. I don't think any of these are "easily found" on CD, which is why I'm sharing.
The Original Flying Pickets - Only You
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=08WM ... AJDT7IAGKE

Vitamin Z - Burning Flame (extended mix)
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1J4X ... 1C7X4XRXHP

Howard Jones - New Song (extended)
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2AWF ... VB3P2Z7330

Martha & the Muffins - Black Stations, White Stations (one of my all time faves)
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=27GV ... AD74GZHYKK

The Creatures - Right Now (which I've spent a LONG time looking for)
http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1WQB ... K44Z418V00
I hope to get a bonus "Right Now" (the Mel Torme version) posted next time.

On with the requests. I'm going to start with the ones that I can't believe I remember:
Vicious Pink - Can't you see
Loose Joints - Tell You Today
Kissing The Pink - Love Lasts Forever
Way of The West - City For Lovers
Floy Joy - Weak in the Presence of Beauty
Anti Nowhere League - Woman (yeah, that fits in this group)

Again - thanks to everyone on this board that takes time to share - this music is the best!

...and you may say to yourself: "My God, what have I done?"

And then again, you may not.

Jefe - I'll take your word for it! Thanks again

Big Bri - Thank YOU, Sir. I KNOW those aren't the single versions, but they are GREAT! They're going on my ipod right now.
You wouldn't happen to HAVE the original versions, do you? I'm puttting together a New Wave Christmas CD for my sibs, and trying to get the most songs as possible on there (they all don't have mp3 cd players, otherwise I'd have gone that route.)

And THANK YOU Cee for the Floy Joy (it's really for my sister in law's cut on the disc)

...and you may say to yourself: "My God, what have I done?"

And then again, you may not.

Hello! I'm quite new here. But I'd like to contribute some German stuff. Of course, I have lots of non-German stuff, too.

Since Tad provided "Only You" from The Flying Pickets, I'd like to share the German version of this song! I wasn't aware of its existence 'til I found a compilation of 1983 hits in a second hand store a few weeks ago. Here we go:

The Flying Pickets - Nur Dein Clown (German Version of 'Only You')

EAC/LAME 3.97b1 -V2 --vbr-new
- from the CD "Hardest Hits Vol 3"

1980-F, do you have Malaria! - Kaltes Klares Wasser? (not any techno remix or the "cover" version by Chicks on Speed).

Afraid not. This version of "Tell You Today" is the only one floating 'out there' that I've ever found. If I find the original of either I'll post 'em.

BigBri - Thanks for the info - I won't go crazy trying to find it!

1980-F... now that's something completely different! Thanks!

obs - that version has the sound I seem to remember - I just don't remember it being that long! Cool!

And here's a few more tidbits:
Depeche Mode Behind the Wheel/Route 66 Mega single mix (for the 2 people here that don't already have it)
http://s59.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2V9A ... 5O57M98DEH

The Cramps _ Goo Goo Muck
http://s49.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2Z53 ... DG2BN4PTXE

a SCORCHING LIVE version of Bumble Boogie from Jools Holland
http://s59.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=35N0 ... 0JXOSPNPG2
(If anyone has the original single version, it would be MUCH appreciated)

The Smiths - This Charming Man New York vocal mix
http://s59.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1347 ... Y1YSHGKIUR

and lastly, another of my faves, Orange Juice - Rip It Up (and Start again)
http://s59.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2OAA ... HCWR7WNPYX

Besides the aforementioned Jools Holland Bumble Boogie, does anyone have the following in their possession?
Bellestars - Sign of the Times
Ledernacken - Amok!
Madness 12" Extended Our House
Yaz - The Other Side of Love
Crazy 8's - Johnny Q
Way of the West - Don't Say that's just for white boys
Kids in the Kitchen - Current Stand
Tim Finn - Spiritual Hunger
Images in Vogue - Strangers in Love
Psyche - Uncivilized
Wolfman Tap - I'm drawing a blank
Horror Movies -BB Brothers (?)
Anti Nowhere League - Woman (that's going to be a tough one, I'm sure)

Thanks again gang!
