Anyone have a couple by the late, great Ms. MacColl?

1. The Remix of "A New England'--I hear it all the time on Flashback Alternatives
2. The Original "They Don't Know", covered by Tracy Ullman?

Thanks so much in advance

Someone is sharing the 12" remix you're looking for on Soulseek, but with long queue.

I thought it was the other way around, that Billy did a cover of "her" New England.

Billy Bragg is the writer. He released a recorded version of the song first, before KMac.

I had heard that Billy Bragg had actually re-tooled the lyrics to the song so that it would seem more appropriate for a girl to sing it rather than a guy.

Billy Bragg had actually done a duet with Kirsty MacColl as well, on her song "Darling, Let's Have Another Baby".

According to the booklet accompanying "From Croyden to Cuba...An Anthology" BB wrote an additional verse for KMac

Saw the Bard of Barking (Billy) a couple of weeks back in concert...the audience went bonkers when he did "New England"... we sang our hearts out! Then on the last chorus, Billy shouted "Sing the next bit for Kirsty!"...I had a lump in my throat as big as the moon...and could barely get the words out! Bless...

I HIGHLY recommend for anyone who's a fan of this track to get the 3 cd "From Croydon To Cuba" Kirsty retrospective...not one single dud. Truly one of the greatest artists Britain has ever produced...and is sadly missed by legions of fans worldwide...

If not for this thread, I would not have known she died already, and a tragic death at that.I only heard 3 songs from her:

1. You just haven't earned it yet baby (Smiths cover and She's Having a Baby OST)
2. Fairytale of New York
3. New England

Always wondered why her name didn't make much of a splash here. Anybody else want to post a rarity from her?
