Bop Bop Girl By Pat Wilson (1983)

Postby Like_Music_88 » Sun Dec 14, 2003 10:12 pm

Somebody mentioned an obscure New Wave pop song from the early 80s called Bop Bop Girl, a song sung by Pat Wilson, who was the wife of Mondo Rock/Daddy Cool frontman Ross Wilson.

Is it just me or is there something similar with that song and that of Madonna's 'Material Girl'? Considering the song was released two years before the Madonna hit, it is possible the later ripped off the first.

The song was a major hit in Australia in 1983 and in the video features a young Nicole Kidman, before she was famous. The video apparently gets still played on a cable show in the states (as mentioned on a thread here previously).

Good observation ... it definitely sounds like it could be a template for "Material Girl". I believe the video got a bit of airplay on MTV during that time.

Is Naomi Watts one of the Bridesmaids in the clip? Her and Nicole are best friends, so it could be.
Have seen the clip twice in the last week on Austar Music Max.

I am just curious. The channel you are referring to is from satellite in Australia, correct? Do they or any other channel play alot of old Aussie/NZ early 80's videos on it? Particularly Models, Machinations, Mi Sex, Dragon, Electric Pandas, Australian
