All great choices folks,
I wish to add the following
For(pre-'85) video I have to give a nod to the 'Spud Boys' for their cartoonish 50's - 60's style video of "Are You Experienced?" and "Thats Good"
(Luv the TV color test pattern backdrop bars sequencing to that frenetic synth beat)[:D]
Also to the Talking Heads for 1986's "And She Was"[;)]

P.S. Fascinating interview with Mark Mothersbaugh courtesy of Henpeck [^]

I was barely 9 when we first got MTV and cable TV in 1982. I was obsessed with four videos:
"Whip It" Devo
"Rock the Casbah" The Clash
"Black Coffee in Bed" The Squeeze
"Vacation" The Go-Gos

My favorite video was always the Eurythmic's "Love is a Stranger". Annie in wigs and bondage gear! Annie as a robotic male chauffeur! "Here Comes The Rain Again" was also a good video - Annie wondering through the Scottish moors with a lantern....what the hell was she looking for anyway?

I always liked Real Life's "Send Me an Angel" video. They are still making music and it's pretty good...http://reallifemusic.net/

For you Generation X/Billy Idol fans, I bought the Generation X anthology and it's great!

My favorite video was The Specials "Ghost Town". In typical MTV fashion, it only appeared a few times.

Funny to see Blancmange videos mentioned. I just got done watching my Blacmange 7" laserdisc!

I also always like those Shelleyan Orphan videos. Really lovely looking, of course I haven't seen them in years so I can't say if they've endured with age.

One of the best definitely is the vid "Men without Hats- Safety Dance"
-all the weirdos, freaks and nerds dancing in a roundel, dressed up like in the middle age.

Another good one is "Midge Ure- If I was" -pretty spartanic but a nice precomputer animation

Ashes to Ashes - by Bowie. I haven't seen it since the 80's and I still remember it well.

Ashes to Ashes is an awesome video. I love all of those cool looking people that walk along with David Bowie. They kind of look like New Romantics but I don't think they were. Bowie makes some of the best of the videos but he also makes some really bad ones. I can't stand "China Girl" and "Let's Dance".

Actually Sean, those people were New Romantics. One of the 'nuns' in the Ashes to Ashes video was none other than London club-kid and Visage frontman Steve Strange.

That is cool. I like the video even better now knowing that they were actually New Romantics. :) Anyone know of any really good books about New Romantics with a lot of pictures in there? I think I saw one for sale in the UK but not sure if it's good.

Wasn't Alan Hunter, one of the original MTV VJ's, in that video too? I have a vague recollection of him being in a couple of scenes.

Nope, I was wrong - he was in "Fashion"... turn to the left
