Lene Lovich DVD 8/28

Postby pinkyblue82 » Wed Jul 18, 2007 3:46 pm

Oh wow! Lene Lovich Live at Studio 54 1981 on DVD August 28th! Very cool!
Tracks:
1.Cats Away
2. Sleeping Beauty
3. Details
4. Joan
5. Rocky Road
6. Too Tender (To Touch)
7. Say When
8. Lucky Number
9. New Toy
10. Bird Song
11. Angels
12. Home
13. One in a Million

This DVD includes a rare performance from the always intriguing Lene Lovich, with Thomas Dolby on synthesizer, at Studio 54 in NYC on December 4, 1981. On this night, Lovich projected her strong soprano with brilliance and explored the limitations of her voice in a way other New Wave experimental singers of the time could only dream about. Of this show, Stephen Holden of the NY Times wrote, 'Miss Lovich put on a fascinating show in which she sang, played the saxophone and danced with a lurching spontaneity that seemed half-demented. Her favorite mode is a wild, hiccupy vocal attack that often breaks into semi-improvisatory bird calling.'

Just getting around to watching this; a few comments:

I think it is mono.
The video, audio quality is certainly not up to 2007 standards, but it was filmed in 1981 of course. A few annoying "special effects", but mostly an intact performance video.
Lene, Les and TMDR are in fine form, with lots of highlights (New Toy, Lucky Number, One In A Million, etc).

Probably the best (only?) LL performance of that era.

I enjoyed it.

ps No music videos included. 54 minutes, 11 songs (no Cats Away,Sleeping Beauty?).
