Conspiracy of Hope
WORLD THEATRICAL PREMIERE
The Secret Policeman’s Film Festival
Country: USA, Release: 1986, Runtime: 660

Inspired by the success of the U.K.-produced Secret Policeman’s Ball shows, films, and albums, the U.S. section of Amnesty International organized a six-city U.S. tour in 1986. A caravan including U2, The Police (specially re-formed after a four-year hiatus), Peter Gabriel, Jackson Browne, and Lou Reed spread the human rights message at the rollicking concerts. The grand finale of the “A Conspiracy Of Hopeâ€￾ US tour for Amnesty International was an all-day concert with over 20 top musical artists at Giants Stadium, New York that took place on a beautiful Sunday in June 1986. Among those who introduced the musicians and talked about Amnesty were:

Robert De Niro • Kevin Bacon • Michael J. Fox • Richard Belzer • Matt Dillon • Muhammad Ali • Elliot Gould • Pat Benatar • Bill Bradley • Christopher Reeve • Daryl Hannah • Pam Grier • Yoko Ono • Sean Lennon • Robin Williams

The 11-hour concert was aired live by MTV as a Live Aid-style spectacular, and the broadcast was never repeated or released on VHS or DVD. This screening, exactly twenty-three years later, represents the entirety of the original concert down to the last minute - the entire 11 hours of the concert – exactly as it happened – at the exact same time of day - hour-for-hour, minute-for-minute. This is a rough timetable of the concert with approximate start times of each musical artist:

1:15pm The Hooters
1:45pm Peter, Paul & Mary

you can get a lot of this show on the amnesty international benefit concerts box set. Some excellent extras as well as a few hidden ones. For the police performance though i much prefer the soundboard from chicago a couple of days earlier. And if you want a big police gig the US festival dvd i was able to watch yesterday in all it's glory takes some beating.
