USA Nightflight

Postby Major Tom » Thu Dec 09, 2004 4:23 am

Anyone remember this gem from the early to mid 1980's? I picked up on it late in its run on USA Network (around 1984-ish), but I saw more great new wave and just plain avant garde videos and shorts on this show than anything else on TV. Stuff that MTV wouldn't even touch. And then they did those awesome compilation hour long videos that used a theme to put together cuts from videos, old movies, cartoons, H.S. education films, etc. (Remember Atomic TV? The Chase?) Awesome stuff to watch at 2 AM in the morning when you're stoned out of your gourd. I heard that we will never see the likes of those video compilations again because I heard that USA may have gotten in trouble with copyright considerations.

As for videos, my favorite videos are:

Ashes to Ashes (Bowie)
It's My Life (Talk Talk)
Lithium (Nirvana)

I remember that! Excellent video edits. I taped a few videos from that show.

I remember Night flight -- I saw the Lenny Bruce animated short "Thank You Mask Man" -- hilarious

Night Flight helped get me into many bands that I like to this day. Most notably Kate Bush and The Residents. The first time I ever saw Bjork was on night flight!
