"NEW TOY" on TV Commercial....

"NEW TOY" on TV Commercial....

Postby Blaster » Sun Nov 23, 2003 11:55 pm

... Speaking of older New Wave popping up on TV commercials ....
Have you caught Lene Lovich's "Ney Toy" on that Xmas Toy store commercial, ( Not to mention that whack-o housewife going "Swiffer" Nuts to DEVO's Whip it)!
I think the Main reason this stuff is starting to crop up in the backround of commercials, Movies & TV is that the decision makers at the AD Agencies & production studios are in their 30's & 40's.
Back about 10-15 yaers ago there was a lot of 50/60's music popping up on commercials for the first time, & I'm sure when the current crop of 12-20 year old Hip Hoppers reach 40 & start "making the decisions" We will hear Buick & Palmolive commercials a little differently than we do now......

I shouldn't be surprised when Devo's mainstream hit is on a Swiffer commercial, but I was surprised with "New Toy". It didn't seem to be that mainstream of a song, and there it is on a Target commercial. Didn't they also do "Beautiful World" by Devo for a

Don't forget The Buzzcocks and Jesus & Mary Chain, their music has been heard on commercials.

A very good current commerical is for HP Cameras/Printers with The Cure's "Pictures of You". Horrible, crappy little cameras but a nice job on the ad.

Dan, yet another DPreview refugee over here? I've also seen Spaz's posts there too. Small world. Great, great work by the way.

K-Mart is using a variation on Jesus Jones' 'Right Here, Right Now'.

THAT was strange.

I almost flipped when I heard the Cure / HP commercial.

But I think my favorite has to be the Hummer commercial where they play Happy Jack by the Who (And they couldn't prevent Jack from feeling happy).
