mystery new wave song

mystery new wave song

Postby wavespy » Sat Mar 13, 2004 3:55 pm

I am going through old home recorded cassettes and found a song from the early to mid 80's that I used to love, but for the life of me can't figure out who it is or the name of the song. It's one of those new wave classics that I should know! I just haven't heard it for a dozen years or so.

Any 80's experts wanna give it a shot?

The lyrics are something like:

"She's getting on a ship
she's heading off
to a foreign land

She said she needs the trip
she needs to write her name
there in the sand

I bet she's getting better all the time
I'll bet she'll never have a better time
she won't be coming home..."

I threw a 45 second sample (at 32kbps/188kb) on my site at:

Any help would be very appreciated! As soon as I hear who it is, it will probably be one of those "DOH!" moments. [:o)]

Wow you're good! THANK YOU!! I will be able to sleep tonight.

And it's from 1989! It has that classic new wave sound and I would have bet that it was from 6 or 7 years earlier. I have never owned a Dramarama cd/album/cassette...time to investigate.

That has turned out to be a rare cd! And I am very surprised that "Out in the Rain" is not on their greatest hits...or on any compilations that I know of.

I would have guessed that the song was more of a hit!
