What is the name, besides "mashup?"

What is the name, besides "mashup?"

I've heard songs that are combined in interesting ways, for example, "Genie in a Bottle" by Christina Aguillera and "Lithium" by Nirvana, and "Emerge" by Fisherspooner and "Everybody Wants You" by Billy Squier.

What is the actual name for this genre of music, so I can look more of it up?

That IS the name -- "mashup." Interestingly, the ones that seem to work best pair brassy vocalists with hard-rock or new-wave backing. For example, Tweet's "Oops, oh my" backed with XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel." It makes you think somebody should start

If you are searching the net, it is also worth searching the term "bastard pop".

"cross over" music is usually the term used in this sense. It could be another term you are looking for though.
