Stay (The Second Time Around) [Solved]

Postby Yachtingtype » Wed May 06, 2009 1:49 am

I was able to obtain an mp3 of the song and on a second listen I am now convinced this is not the artist we are looking for. It was promising for 5 minutes or less [:p]

<br>A trace I already followed some time ago is the Band D.I.A., the singer's voice is pretty similar to the voice of our singer of "Second time around". I searched for any Info about the band, but all I found was the 12" of "Passion play" with a b-side-track De Dini Devil once posted on his site, so I would rule this one out.
But maybe some Side-Project of the singer or some demo?

Here you can check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHKfMXAfBd0

By the way: It's from Germany and it's from 1984..
Does anyone have some more Info about the band?[/quote]

Yeah. It has no melody and isn't half as good as "Passion Play" by Still Life. Whose lead singer, Jon Newby, also sounds the same as the mystery song. He isn't. But he sounds like him.

Well, as for me, this song, though it's really nice, sounds rather like a demo tape or a rehearsal recording. May be it has never been published.

Well It's 2 years since I posted the clip to youtube (on 8/25/07)... 18,048 views which is nice... many comments, guesses, suggestions, but still no definitive answer. Certainly, It's nice that more people are aware of the song... keeping the faith that someday the song will be identified.

This is a long shot (what isn't?) but I just found out about this German program that ran from 1982-1988 called "Ronny's Pop Show" and they put out several music compilations up til about the late 90's. Most the stuff was major pop hits, but as it's German it also included some "obscure" songs, at least by American standards. My thoughts are, if anyone could get in touch with the people behind Ronny's Pop Show, perhaps being a German music oriented program they may know about this song.

Not exactly sure how to do this however, but it is a suggestion.

Ronny's Pop Show was mainly a videoclip based program intercut with some comedy style stuff by Ronny (a monkey) - the compilations normally featured big hits that appeared in the show.

Maybe someone should do a cover of the song. When the cease and desist order comes, then we'll know who wrote it. ;)

That's an excellent idea. Anyone know how to get in touch with Coldplay?

I'll throw this out there and see what people think...

The vocals in the mystery song resemble Jean-Marc Pisapia's vocals of the Canadian band The Box---even more so if the song is sped up. Also, the song's style resembles The Box's style.

The Box, which was originally named Checkpoint Charlie around 1981, entered a song in CKOI-FM's Homegrown contest in 1983 and won. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the name of their winning song and couldn't find any correlation between The Box and our mystery song.

Could this be The Box or Checkpoint Charlie? Could this be The Box's song that won the CKOI-FM contest in '83?

(More about The Box here: http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Pop_Encyclopedia/B/Box.html)

I hate to be a nay sayer, but to me Jean Marc's vocals have more of a nasal quality to them. I don't think its The Box, but it would be fun to see what their CKOI entry would have sounded like.
The scary thing is that there were so many radio station contests all over the world in the 80s (Here in Toronto, we had The Great Ontario Talent Search, Q107 Homegrown and a few others) that produced some great music. Hopefully, one day, somebody in the band will stumble accross this forum and solve the mystery for us. And the single will probably get released since so many of us want it.

Hmm, now this one seems very, very likely.

Released between 1984 and 1986? Check.
Practically unknown? Check.
From an European country? Check.
Sung in English? Check.
Pop/Rock? Check.

Unfortunately it's impossible to find a copy on sale anywhere. [xx(]
