So far in just over 2 months: 1,072 plays... well that's more than I anticipated. Hopefully someone will recognize the song.

One comment on the song so far:
"maybe peter murphy or his band bauhaus"

It sounds Scandinavian to me.
So I emailed the link to a couple of vinyl record shops over there asking for their help.
Let's hope we get a positive reply.
Glok,

I didn't say it was Peter Murphy/Bauhaus -- I just posted the (1) comment (left so far out of 1100 plays) from the person who left the comment on the youtube page... of course if it was Peter Murphy/Bauhaus we would have figured it out 4+ years ago, no question. I'm just doing all I can to get this song out to the most people that might recoconize it. I sent it to several music blogs and they didn't respond :-(

Sorry, I didn't mean that comment at you directly, it was at the dumb post fron U-Tub, I saw the comment, as well as Alexbowser's comment that is was indeed not PM or Bauhaus. I was making a joke/poke at the comment with the [}:)] and [:p] marks.

Anyway, FYI, Cee e-mailed me to ask if I'd trtanslate/write up one or a few German languaged paragraphs so she can post them on some of the German music sites and see if we can't get a "hit!"

Alrighty then... over and out! [:D]

Hi All, here is what Kaj Kindvall's response and what he has suggested:

Hi,

wish I could help you, but the song does not ring a bell. I scanned a
few lists from those days and I have only one suggestion - the trouble is I haven't heard the song and I don't have access to it.

It's called "Second Time" by Norwegian band Blind Date, released in
1984 on the album (LP, no CD I think) "Dangers Of Love." Label: Epic EPC25712.

As I said, it's a long shot.

I hope you will identify it in the end!

Regards
Kaj Kindvall

So another lead, and hopefully not another dead end... Who wants to check this song out? Dose seffe have it? I will e-mail him! OK, happy hunting for this song...
Here's the release Kaj Kindvall is referring to:
http://www.discogs.com/release/1024355
According to the page "Second Time" was written by Svein Hovland http://www.discogs.com/artist/Svein+Hovland who is still working in the music business as of 2006 as a producer.

Some of the people responding to the Metafilter thread http://ask.metafilter.com/75448/New-Wave-Mystery-Song think the song is slowed down 5-7% which is a possibility (though I like it at the speed it's playing at)

A few hours ago, following Glokstädt's post, I've contacted the one and only discogs member who has the album. I've asked him to listen to the mystery song and tell us if it's 'Second Time' from his Blind Date lp.
No answer so far...

I'm trying to track down any sample of Svein Hovland's voice, just to see if it matches up but have had no luck so far!
