On CD January 16 is a long overdue collection by great Sheffield band ARTERY. The CD is titled "Into The Garden: An Artery Collection", and collects songs from 1981-1983. I've been working with Cherry Red records on this project since late summer. I selected the tracks, running order, assisted with artwork and title, and proofed the liner notes and discography. I also did all of the sound remastering.
Included in its entirety is the bands classic 1983 album “One afternoon in a hot air balloon”, as well as choice selections from their 1982 “Oceans” mini LP. In addition, as the master tapes were unearthed, we managed to find a couple of songs/versions that had never previously been released. One song is titled “Africa”, which is a great, tribal style song. History indicates this was intended to be a single release, though vocalist Mark Gouldthorpe hated it, and refused to put vocals to it. The song has vocals provided by then band member Michael Fiedler. Another unexpected surprise was a bizarre interpretation of their classic song “The Slide”, which has also lain dormant until now.
I’m sure the usual questions will arise like, “Why wasn’t the song ______ included?” The songs on the CD are owned by Cherry Red, and any others, including the missing songs from the “Oceans” mini LP, would have required additional licensing fees. I managed to fill the CD to nearly 70 minutes, and it’s amazing!
The CD is now available for pre-order on Amazon US and UK, as well as CD universe. Here is the track listing:
1. Into The Garden
2. Afterwards (Original 7" Version)

The CD is only now going to production, so I don’t yet have the actual product. I’ve worked very hard on every aspect of this release so I hope everyone will be pleased with the final results.
In addition, there is another ARTERY collection coming out in late February on another label, concentrating more on the early singles, and perhaps the missing “Oceans” songs. The bands 1984 material is not currently scheduled for any sort of release, at least to my knowledge.
