Damned dark and dirty, ain't it? Hints of industrial. Love it.

first post! [:D]

the album is excellent. it sounds a bit like a step sideways, not a progression from the last album. also, they sound scarily like the silver apples in some songs. my favorite song is 'the rip', extremely beautiful. i can't wait to buy it when it comes out.

Step sideways for sure, and I don't mean that as a compliment. No progression at all to my ears. So far I only like Machine Gun and Threads, though more tracks may grow on me...that's the way it usually is with Portishead. I just don't see this as a product that properly reflects their 10-year absence. It seems if you've put out two legendary trip-hop albums then disappeared for awhile, that you're return ought to be fairly momentous. It isn't...again, not to me...so far. Interesting that The Rip sounds like one of Goldfrapp's folksy songs off her new album.

yup. that's really spot on. it should have been a momentous release, just as i suspect that the new (if ever) MBV release needs to be or else many fans will be upset. i at least can drool over anything mbv releases so it won't bother me. i would just be happy to have more mbv songs to add to the library. but i digress.

anyway Machine Gun is definitely the most agressive track of the lot and the most progressive (i hear some industrial and noise elements). We Carry On is the silver apples song. and sadly, since i'm not interested in goldfrapp, the comparison to The Rip is lost on me. but i believe you.

meh, beth's voice is nice. [;)]
