U2's 'The Unforgettable Fire' reissue in October

U2's 'The Unforgettable Fire' reissue in October

Postby Chavo Davis » Sat Jul 04, 2009 1:40 am

U2 announces ‘The Unforgettable Fire’ reissue box set via plastic shopping bag

U2’s The Unforgettable Fire will be remastered and reissued in a “super deluxe” box set this October that will include “B-sides, rare and previously unreleased songs, and film and video footage.”

Oddly, news of the release — the sixth in the band’s ongoing catalog reissue campaign — came not via press release or posting on U2’s official Web site. Rather, fans attending the opening concerts of the band’s 360° World Tour in Barcelona this week picked up plastic shopping bags at the merchandise tables that advertised the forthcoming reissue, according to fan site U2tour.de.

I am so looking forward to this as it will leave only one of my absolute favorite U2 albums left to be reissued (Achtung Baby). That they're going to do a deluxe edition in the vein of The Joshua Tree will be fantastic. I wish they'd have done that with Boy & October too, but I'll gladly take what I can get!

The Joshua Tree was released in an even more deluxe version, with 2 CDs and a DVD in a larger box.

Thanks but I know all about Boy, October & War being 2 CD deluxe reissues. A long time fan since 'Boy', I have & love them all. My point is that like The Joshua Tree reissue, there will be 3 CD formats of The Unforgettable Fire reissue - 1. the remastered cd; 2. the remastered cd + bonus rarities/ b-sides disc; 3. super deluxe version with both cds + a bonus dvd. Sorry for not clarifying this before.

Good timing -- I FINALLY found reasonably-priced copies of the 2CD versions of the first three albums.

have seen no tracklistings yet, but amazon u.s. now has all 3 versions (cd; cd + bonus cd; cd + bonus cd + bonus dvd) posted for pre-orders. price-wise, amazon u.k. is $40 U.S. vs. $63 on amazon u.s. for the deluxe version. i can think of 15 tracks that should appear on the bonus cd, plus here's a link about an unreleased outtake called 'disappearing act' that sounds like it will be on the bonus cd: http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2009/0 ... c-radio-1/

I very much hope that track list for the second disc is wrong as has been mentioned above. Where is the live version of A Sort Of Homecoming or the dub of Wire[?] I noticed The Unforgettable Fire documentary is on the DVD as well what's the point in that when it's already on the Live from Slane Castle DVD.[?]

here's specific details on the bonus cd and dvd, straight from u2's official site - thankfully that initial tracklist from some belgian fansite was wrong. looks good to me - the wire dub mix apparently WILL be included!

s we reported a couple of weeks ago, special formats of The Unforgettable Fire will feature bonus audio material and a DVD including music videos, a documentary and unreleased live footage from the Amnesty International Conspiracy of Hope Tour in 1986. Here's the 16 track listing for :

The Unforgettable Fire Bonus Audio CD.

Disappearing Act
A Sort of Homecoming (live)
Bad (live)
Love Comes Tumbling
The Three Sunrises
Yoshino Blossom
Wire (Kervorkian Remix)
Boomerang I
Pride (In The Name of Love)
A Sort of Homecoming
11 O'Clock Tick Tock
Wire (Celtic Dub Mix)
Basa Trap
Boomerang II
4th of July
Sixty Seconds in Kingdom Come

As the comments on our earlier story have been suggesting, The Unforgettable Fire - with the arrival of Brian Eno and Danny Lanois in the studio - has a special place in the heart for many fans and a lot of the tracks on this bonus CD have been unavailable for a long time.

Two of the titles from those Slane Castle sessions have never been available: 'Yoshino Blossom', and 'Disappearing Act', which the band recently completed. A Sort of Homecoming and Bad are live versions, from The Unforgettable Fire Tour that were on the highly sought after collectors item EP Wide Awake in America.

The version of 11 O'Clock Tick Tock was the b-side to 'Pride (In The Name of Love)' while Wire (Celtic Dub Remix) was previously on 7" vinyl given away free with NME in May 1985.

And The Unforgettable Fire DVD Collection looks like this:

The Unforgettable Fire
Directed by Meiert Avis

Bad
Directed by Barry Devlin

Pride (In The Name Of Love)
Directed by Donald Cammell

A Sort Of Homecoming
Directed by Barry Devlin

The Making Of The Unforgettable Fire - documentary
Directed by Barry Devlin

Additional Material

U2 at A Conspiracy Of Hope Concert
1. MLK
2. Pride (In The Name Of Love)
3. Bad
Recorded live at Giants Stadium, New Jersey, USA, 15th June 1986

U2 at Live Aid
1. Sunday Bloody Sunday 2. Bad
Recorded live at Wembley Stadium, 13th July 1985

Pride (In The Name Of Love) - Sepia version
Directed by Donald Cammell

11 O'Clock Tick Tock - Bootleg version
Live from Croke Park, Dublin, Ireland, 29th June 1985

Looks like a great collection to go with the remastered album.
