Blakeh, as you probably know, this board has its share of trolls that crop up from time to time, so wasn't a stretch to view your post as baiting or inflammatory rather than tongue-in-cheek, and I don't think many realized that we were dealing with Blake of TheFirstCut.net! Hey no biggie, but a smilie for the sake of irony wouldn't hurt![;)] Too many negative vibes on this board in the past few weeks, man!

No one messes with my friend Alex. [;)]

I think we are kind of close nit bunch here so if any of our board friends gets some negative comments or publicity, I think we'll come out with our fists ready for some action.

Hahah, you got Mike involved even. Pretty good!!! [:D]

Blake ya crazy bastard - I leave you alone on this forum for 5 minutes and look what you do! If you keep this up you can go sit in the car young man!
It was a joke, its all good. Although, now you mention it there may be room on RA6 for Billy Ocean [:p]

Of course, I meant no offense.

I honestly thought everyone would pick up on my sarcasm! [:)]

To those of you who simply didn't find my post humorous... I beg to differ.

I probably would have found it funny in real life, but on a text forum, it doesn't have the same delivery.

Not wanting to speak out of turn here, but I would not object in the least to finding the 12" mix of "Loverboy" by Billy Ocean on RA6. That track has a killer guitar line.

Great post Blake.[:D][:D]

<br>No offense to whoever puts these comps out (it sounds like his name is Alex?), but there is just way too much obscure stuff on these discs. Who's heard of "Alphaville" (wasn't that a movie?) or "Dead Or Alive" (I think that was a movie too). And why are all the tracks confined to just club 80's music? The comps completely ignore the other great 80's music that was out. Also, why can't we see some songs that aren't on other 80's compilations (like "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell or "Mickey" by Toni Basil)?

If I could have my dream track listing, it would look like this:

"Tainted Love" - Soft Cell
"Mickey" - Toni Basil
"Here I Go Again" - Whitesnake
"Walking On Sunshine" - Katrina & The Waves
"Relax" - Frankie Goes To Hollywood (hard to find song)
"Future's So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)" - Timbuk 3
"Maneater" - Hall & Oates
"Bad Boys" - Inner Circle
"The Joker" - Steve Miller Band (not technically 80s, but still a great song)
"Motown Philly" - Boyz II Men
"Heaven Is A Place On Earth" - Belinda Carlisle
"Broken Wings" - Mr. Mister
"You Shook Me All Night Long" - AC/DC (this song rocks!)
"Get Outta My Dreams (Get Into My Car)" - Billy & The Oceans
"Word Up" - Cameo

I wonder if they ever considered that they could fit a lot more songs on the disc if they didn't use the long versions. I mean who wants to hear 8+ minutes of a song when all of us are used to hearing the regular version that's on the radio?

I know this is just one person's opinion, but I hope that the record company will consider some of my suggestions.

Thinking about it, Blake's idea is not that bad. A lot of non-new wave & top 40 artists from the 80's did have great 12" singles. I think it would be rather cool to have something like this with all 12" versions:

Fleetwood Mac - Little Lies
Moody Blues - The Voice
Bobby Vinton - Sealed With A Kiss
Hall & Oates - Maneater
America - You Can Do Magic
Steve Winwood - While You See A Chance
Quarterflash - Harden My Heart
Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight or is it Tonight Tonight Tonight
Don Henley - The Boys Of Summer

To Sean's point, though I don't think they'd be appropriate for the RA series, I rather enjoyed some of the non-synthpop tracks that were part of the latest 12"/80s/Dance box set.

I'm still trying to track down a certain club mix of "Oh Sheila" by Ready For The World (all the 12" versions I have are the same, and not the one I'm looking for).

I'm sure many of us have some 80's guilty pleasures that we'd love to hear extended versions of.

Yeah, there are a lot of 'more commercial' tracks that would be cool to see on cd. Guily pleasures like Sly Foxx 'Lets Go All The Way' and the like.
Was there a 12" of The Boys of Summer?
Dont know about the Bobby Vinton though...

Not sure about the Don Henley song being extended. I just figured it would be nice to have a long version of that song. [:)] Ok ok ok, there was a brief period where I liked the dance remix version of Bobby Vinton's "Sealed With A Kiss". [:I]

Only a brief period? ha, I still love that dance mix [:D]
Don't forget such other extended versions like, Don Henley - All She Wants To Do Is Dance and Toto - Stranger In Town, but come on folks the best is Frankie Valli - Streetfighter (the mix is about 7 mins. and it's fantastic! Curb records put out some good things in the 80's.

I'm loving the discussion you guys are having concerning more commercial dance oriented projects. How I'd love to have "Missing You"(12-inch mix)by John Waite on CD. Or what about Charlie Sexton's "Beats So Lonely" on CD. Or what about the pop oriented John "Jellybean" Benitez mixes like David Bowie's "Blue Jean" or Talking Heads' "Slippery People" or Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It".
Even Michael Sembello's "Automatic Man". And speaking of The Four Seasons, there was once a disco mix of their "Who Loves You" and later on in the 80's, a remix of the same song by Ben Liebrand. I so wish the labels would reach into their vaults and release these dance mixes whenever they re-release a remastered disc of the artists' discography! Like they are doing with Hall and Oates!!!!

Thank the Gods (and Goddesses!) that we have people like Alex Hush on our sides. These Retro discs are a blessing way up front!!!!
