Such bullshit. How the fuck do you know whether the CD's I have sound better or not? Your assessment is blind bullshit.

You should securely/accurately rip both CDs and compare the waveforms. If one sounds better, it is because it's been remastered/tweaked somehow. That, or your CD player's laser is a piece of dung.

If you still think that SHM-CDs sound better purely based on the disc being easier to read, do a search for comments on Yamaha's Audio Mastering Quality (different "technology", but same principle).

Analogy: You can print a book in any font, or hand print it, even, on any type of paper, but at the end of the day, the story is exactly the same. Making the story easier to read isn't going to make the story any better.

As long as they ring true to your ears that's all that matters.

> If you want to hear for yourself, listen to the regular CD version of String Driven Thing, then listen to the SHM-CD. It is very different.

I'm saying that the SHM-CD technology is a gimmick. If it sounds better to any other pressing, then it is not because of the actual SHM technology itself, but because of some kind of remastering (which is why I suggest to rip and compare waveforms; if they're not the same, then there's remastering involved).

Of course, if both waveforms are the same, and the SHM-CD sounds better, it is because the CD player you're using has a shitty loader/dying laser/etc, since it cannot read discs properly.

> Such bullshit. ... Your assessment is blind bullshit.

It's not bullshit; it's science. If you wouldn't get so misty-eyed and hotheaded, you might be able to understand the explanation [;)].

And it's not only my assessment. Others far more knowledgeable than I am will tell you the same thing.

> If they sound much better to me, at least for the ones I have purchased, that's all that matters.

No, it's not all that matters, since other people read these forums, and they might get suckered into the SHM gimmick.

If it sounds better to me, YES, that is all tht matters to ME. You are aloowed to state your opinion and tell people how wrong they are, it is okay for someone to express that in spite of your opinion or what you believe to someone else a disc can send much much better. And from what I've read from all the obviously inferior information compared to your vast knowledge, how the music might sound better was explained. Was the explanation BS, I don't know, but to hear the striking difference made me believe it. I've heard 2nd-erd-4th generation remasters, this is the first I've heard any disc with this quality. I don't care if they call it Fisher Price 101, for the discs I've take a chance on, each one has been amazingly better than anything I've had before. Unlike MANY remasters that just did not measure up.

And teared up...........what the fuck is that. You come in and tell people blatantly how we don't know anything, we express our opnion, and that's tearing up. You're a piece of work.

Dude, take a valium.

> If it sounds better to me, YES, that is all tht matters to ME.

No argument here. You're the one claiming that I'm talking bullshit, not vice versa. I'm merely providing information (not personal opinion) on the topic, and in case you haven't realized, this topic is not all about YOU.

Anyways, from checking out more comments regarding SHM-CDs, it seems that they *are* remastered (or at least, a lot of them are). My guess would be that they use the SHM angle to justify the price that they charge. I mean, really, they could remaster it and put it on a 20c CD-R, and it would sound the same; there's no need for Super High Materials (although the SHM may have better resistant to rot).

And before someone starts ranting about how it's none of my business how other people spend their money, no need to preach to me about it. I'm the guy who bought Duran's first three albums, remastered, three times: jewel case, mini-LP replica, boxset (and plan on buying the double disc Rio set) [:)].

All about me???? Because I respond to you. Guess everyone on this board is guilty.

You know best. I'd point you to an article written by a top producer and someone that is heavily involved in studio remastering that talks about SHM-CD but you already know they are wrong. By the way, I guess you got trashed for buying all your DD remasters. Kinda how you bash anyone that happens to think SHM-CD quality is great. But we deserve it unlike you, because we don't know anything like you do.
