Although slightly off topic, I especially agree with clarence's comments about leaving off bonus tracks and partial catalog remasters.

With regard to sound, I will generally give a bit of a pass on mastering issues if there are good bonus tracks to be had. I need to line up the new Siouxsie remasters against the old to see if the bonus tracks are desirable...any recommendations regarding the bonus tracks would be welcome!

Hello, just crawled out from under my rock.

Popping off to Severin-world to set the record straight. Hee hee.

'Tinderbox' is my favorite Siouxsie and Co. album. I will not be purchasing the remaster and I will hold on to my original pressing. Thank you Scott for the heads up.

Don't let me discourage you from purchasing the new Tinderbox. If anything, the previously unreleased "Song from the edge..." is worth the price. I found that I put the extras (I liked) on my iPod, and keep the original Polydor and Geffen CD's in my CD collection, while packing the remasters away if I ever need to source those extra tracks again. Also, the Painted Bird demo on the Dreamhouse CD is a treat as well, though I'm sticking to my old CD's for album tracks on the iPod.

That's not a bad idea Scott, I am not familiar with "Song From The Edge Of The World" I am half tempted to purchase the remaster now based on that track alone. I have the "Cities In Dust" 12" single so I could live without that but it would be nice have the other bonus tracks on CD. I'll let you know what I decide. Thanks again

I pulled out my Polydor "Tinderbox" and have to admit that it sounds better on my system, which already tends towards "brightness". Also, I'd forgotten that it included that 4-track EP (or whatever), which is not on the remaster. Again, just based on the low price, the remasters are still worth having. The much-maligned Starcrossed demo actually sounds fine to me.

I didn't own physical copies of the old CDs (had them on MP3) so happily bought all of them. I think they sound good. Probably not perfect, but I am satisfied. Rubellan, you obviously know your stuff and are passionate about the music, so want it to sound as good as possible. The problem is that most people simply will not care about the remastering jobs to the level you do and I can't see that changing any time soon.

To my ears they sound pretty good. That's what I use to judge, as opposed to technology. I am usually pretty picky with sound quality, but just based on what my ears are telling me when I play something, not if programs are telling me it is clipping, volume blasted, etc. My ears are happy with the SATB remasters.

As far as the volume situation goes, it is a tricky situation. If they keep these old albums at their original volume levels, they are going to sound so inconsistent with anything that's been released within recent years. I don't want to continuously have to adjust my volume control. It's maybe unfortunate, but the music industry has set a standard for loud CDs and at this point I don't think there's any going back. Is there a way to boost volume levels without detracting from the quality of the music?
