Not...
SWING OUT SISTER
GLORIA GAYNOR

Grey area..
SPANDAU BALLET (new romantics generally get's a pass around here)

Duran Duran (new romantic, became pop, but generally fall under the very liberal definition of new Wave, especially first 2 albums)

I think most around here would agree.

SPANDAU BALLET might raise the ire of a few, but Rick Astley isn't even close.

there was great Rick Astley reference in the Family Guy show when he went back in time to the 1980s (ala Back to the Future)
the dog in imitation of Michael J Fox doing the song at the dance, the dog states that this song was "written by a gay guy" and proceeds to sing Never Gonna Give You UP complete with guitar-keyboard
there is also a person who is related to Rick Astley calling him on the phone about the sound of the song
funny episode if you can catch it
by why bring up Rick Astley on this board?
he was 80's pop not New Wave!

Its a shady area with news. Astley isn't new wave, but he was produced by the team who burst onto the scene with Dead or Alive, which made many hardcore fans of the SAW sound, so it's sort of like an "in related news". There are plenty of once 'new wave' artists and producers who didn't stick to the formula, yet we still mention their stuff on here, because it's of interest to fans who like these artists and producers more than because they were once 'new wave.'

Personally, I appreciate people keeping me informed of these 'off' topics on this site, my one stop shop for 80s music news. I mean, can we talk about SSQ but not dare mention Stacey Q? Pseudo Echo as long as we never talk about that third album? Berlin, again as long as we exclude their third album? Why talk about the Joshua Tree? That album is NOT new wave. Mike Chapman produced Blondie, but can we only be fans of his when he produces 'official' new wave artists and not people like Pat Benatar? Giorgio Moroder did great stuff with Phil Oakey and Berlin, but is his work with Donna Summer off the table--because without his groundbreaking electronic work with her, there never would have been an Electric Dreams--or dozens of other new wave artists in general. David Bowie? There was a TINY window of output by him that could be considered new wave in the 80s IMO, so shouldn't everything else by him be forbidden on these boards?

Just saying...

Sorry

but where does SAW, Dead or Alive, Pseudo Echo, Giorgio Morodor with or without Phil Oakley or Limahl, Stacey Q, Pat benatar, Furniture, Rick Astley and Donna fucking Summer gotta do with fucking Nu Wave.........

Does an American actually get the concept of Nu Wave, sorry us over here were into Flying Lizards (at the time) etc, what were the Americans listening to, oh prb Boston, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac. You can have the Cars and J Geils Band, but please......Rick Fucking Astley

Not having a go at Yanks, some know their stuff.....

Jesus, just cos Mick Chapman did Blondie does that mean I can include Middle of The Road, The Sweet, Mud etc as Nu Wave, just cos he produced Blondie, doesn't mean he's Nu Wave, it's like saying Electric dreams by Morodor (shit that it is) is disco cos he produced alot of disco.

So I'm assuming, and correct me if i'm wrong, SAW did Dead or Alive, so that means we can deduce Kylie, Jason Donovan, Sinitta and the rest of the fucking output is nu wave, cos if you include Rick Astley include the rest......

Stick it here

http://www.nwoutpost.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=14

or go to some SAW fan site to post the drivel, or some other poppy 80's shit......Nu wave is well.....Lok it up (try England, Where it STARTED)

Nuff said
