Duran Duran reissuing 'Notorious,' 'Big Thing'

I finally gave in and ordered their first album. The second disc has some nice versions, and I wanted "Careless Memories" and "Night Boat" on DVD.

I doubt I'll get "Notorious" and "Big Thing" unless I can get them for ~$15. Kind of a shame, since I really like Notorious.

BTW, for anyone who downloaded the MP3s of "Big Thing", are the levels jacked up beyond belief again?

I would presume that the 2CD+DVD will be a box and that the non-DVD version will be packaged as the previous two.

The real question is whether or not Rio will be reissued in a 2CD+DVD box as well, after all this is done (with extra volume ).

Apparently Big Thing hasn't been remastered at all and sounds exactly the same as the original CD. I have both downloaded so i can't really tell the difference listening to them on my pc.

As probably every Duran fan knows, the deluxe editions of the first album and Seven and the Ragged Tiger released earlier this year were extremely over compressed and poorly EQ'd, resulting in a distorted trebly loud sound. EMI certainly have responded to the critics in the release of this and Big Thing - but [b]rather than re-do the mastering they have simply lowered the overall volume of the CDs.[/b] The peak level is now approximately 60%. This results in the CD on first listening not sounding significantly louder than "normal" CDs. However - this means that the dynamic range of the music has not only been squashed by over compression, but has been reduced further. Think about it - if the range was 95-99% before, by the reducing the top level to 60% the range is now 60-57.6%. 5% range reduced to 2.4%.[/i]

It's a real shame. I finally gave in and bought the first album, and I have to say that the packaging made getting it exciting (despite all the mastering issues). I haven't been pumped about getting any CD/vinyl in a loooonnng time. It was like the 80s again [:)].

I had original perused the track lists of these two discs and thought only the Big Thing reissue had mixes to offer that weren't on any of the numerous Duran collections I already have. But relooking at Notorious, I do believe I don't have the "Vertigo (Do The Demolition)" Mantronix Mix anywhere, so for completist's sake, I'll have to pick that disc up too.
