Retro:Active5 - Rare and Remixed

There never was a extended version, I own the original 12" and it only contains a single version and a LP version. To the best of my knowledge the LP version is somewhere around the time of 4:53 like you guys were mentioning. If anyone would like I can go run downstairs and better clarify and listen to it as well to let all of you know. I wish there was an official extended version, but sadly I do not believe there is.

Thanks, Justin/DevoManiac101

Okay, here are the details

Capitol Records, 1983 SPRO-9001

STATE OF THE NATION (Album Version) Time: 4:35
STATE OF THE NATION (Edited Version) Time: 3:40

If you would like I would be more than happy to upload both tracks and send them to you through e-mail. Let me know, it has been a while since I listened and I do remember and extended intro/outro at least I think that's what I remember [8D]

Thanks, Justin/DevoManiac101

The 4:34 version is currently available on the EMI compilation "Hidden Treasures". Much as I love the song, I would prefer to sacrifice it's inclusion on RA5 for something truly rare. Maybe something by Blue Zoo or Jimmy Jimmy.

It's also on the "Lost Hits of the 80s" compilation on EMI (although that would appear to be OOP now).

Hello Alex:

I just forwarded an e-mail to you that contains the 4:54 version of "State Of The Nation" with the "Blue Monday" sounding intro... it is more than likely drawn from a hard to get import 12" perhaps from the UK.

I am not aware of this version ever appearing anywhere on CD.

Thanks, Dave [:)]

Hey Dave,
Got it thanks! Me thinks this may be a Razormaid Mix (based on the Blue Monday intro). Hmmmmmmm
Cheers,
Alex

Alex, would Nine Ways To Win's "Close To You" 12" version be a good song to consider for Retro:Active?

You picked some very cool choices, a few I had also recommended.

"Bag Lady (I Wonder)" -- exactly! let others know these guys had more than one song. The entire LP is actually a masterpiece, and glad someone agrees that the 12" version of this song should be released on a compilation.

"War Boys" -- how could you go wrong with this pick? is it just me or when the break comes it can be easily mixed with Shannon's "Let The Music Play"

"When Love Surges" -- OMG yes!

"Billy Hyena" -- the extended version on this is so cool, these guys were great and more should be released to the public so they can hear. "Ravers Red Light" and "Slang Teacher" are two other good tracks by the gang

Like I said, many great tracks, and we can only hope to see some of these appear on upcoming collections. One more thing, instead of "Adventures In Success" by Will Powers, how about the full length version of the quirky yet catchy song "Kissing With Confidence".

Thanks, Justin/DevoManiac101
