Thanks Justin/DevoManiac for your enthusiasm about some of the tracks I've requested. It makes me so happy to have found this group and find like minded individuals who share my musical tastes. It kind of validates my likes, because, growing up, there weren't many others who appreciated what I listened to. I always had a thing for the obscure, if I could find it. That's why I love these compilations from Hi-Bias records; there are tracks I wasn't even familiar with. And the re-mastering and the care they take with getting the individuals to talk about their involvement in the making of the tracks are fascinating!!! For instance, hearing "Wouldn't It Be Good" with the trick editing and samples and crazy F/X was phenomenal!!! I never heard this mix!!! I had an extended version, but not the wild one that the Retro: Rare and Remixed had. Awesome!!!

I so loved that you really love the EBN/OZN record. Gosh, why has this slipped through the cracks!?!! And that you know "War Boys" dazzled me!!! I'm a huge John Robie fan. He has produced some of my favorite records of all time!!! Too cool that you know "When Love Surges" too!!! John did this mix also and I haven't seen it on any compilation. OOOOOOH, the Wide Boy Awake record!!!! So glad you know it too.

I also got a kick out of you mentioning Will Power's "Kissing With Confidence". I've read about this record, but have never heard it. Would really love that one too.

Of course, Ministry's "I Wanted To Tell Her" would be a dream come true for me. Cool F/X in this one. I love the old Ministry!!! WORK.......for love!!!!

Major props to you and Alex and this group. It already feels like home!!!!

Hi Jeffrey,
Thanks for the kind words about the cds. We try very hard to bring some great tracks to the masses and I spend a lot of time researching and collecting masters and input from some of the artists, producers and mixers associated. We have had a lot of great help and input from various people from this board, not to mention Blake, DJ Lex, the Ideal Copy lads, Sean, Dave etc etc. Its because of people like yourselves that we continue to do these cds.
Stay tuned for Volume 5.

I would absolutely love to see the 7" version of Dream Academy's "Love Parade" appear on Volume 5. Also, Cee Farrow's "Should I Love You" is a perfect suggestion. I'd actually love to see his entire album on disc. My LP is a bit worn. Claire Grogan's "Love Bomb" would be cool, too. Culture Club's 12" version of "I'm Afraid Of Me" AND "White Boy" are way, way overdue on disc! I don't know if anyone remembers this, but Mamie VanDoren had a SUPERB New Wave 12" record out in '84 called "State Of Turmoil". Awesome techno sounding track. This would a gem on disc! I have 2 copies of the vinyl and are very protective of them.

Would love to see one of the following mixes of A Flock Of Seagulls:

Never Again (the dancer) (dance mix)
The More You Live, The More You Love (full moon mix)
Wishing (if I had a photograph of you)(long version)

Although the last one was released on a Dutch compilation called the Long Versions.

Are these the four disc compilations from Sony? I have the first two but don't know if there are more.

Alex - I've got 1-4 and love 'em. Thanks for the great work!

A few suggestions for Volume 5:

Ministry - With Sympathy era remixes/extended mixes.
B-movie - Remembrence Day (version from 1982 Sire 12" single).
Dream Academy - Any other remixes not yet used on earlier volumes.
Thomas Dolby - Any rare extended mixes
Bow Wow Wow - (Do they have any extended mixes?)

Work For Love - Ministry (6:25 "Extended" Version where Al yells near the end "... but I'm willing to work"

Mercy Dash (Ready For This)- Shriekback (7" version (Arista SHRK 2 - UK)) Completely different from all other versions.

Obsession - Michael DesBarres and Holly Knight (7" inch or "Made In Heaven" Soundtrack version - NOT the Extended and definitely not the horrific remake by Animotion

Somewhere In The World There's A Cowboy Smiling - Blue Zoo (7" Version)

I Don't Believe A Word - A Bigger Splash (With Sting producing)

I Wonder Who's Out Tonight - The Burns Sisters

Yes! Yes!! YES!!! I really loved your suggestions for the new compilation. Especially "The Way of Life" by The Puppets!!! New York's 92 WKTU used to play this one all the time. Even the Latin Rascals would mix it in and out of their "Paco's Supermix". What great memories!!!!

I also like your suggestion for Ministry's "Work For Love" too, although I would really love "I Wanted To Tell Her". Al performed it with Shay Jones (I think) and the 12-inch has a great spoken word part by her in it. Great edits too!!!

And, you've mentioned Hilary!!! What a classic song "Kinetic" was, but I absolutely would crave her "Drop Your Pants" even more!!!! The line where she says "I'll be your pussy, you be my mouse" is hysterical!!!!

Again, great suggestions, some I haven't even heard before, but they sound great. That's what is so phenomenal about this group; it's quite an enrichment and an education to everyone who loves the 1980's and New Wave!!!!

Jeffrey

P.S. I still would love "Under the Gun" by Face to Face. The 12-inch version. Their "10-9-8" is on so many compilations, but this one has never been (I think). Please, please someone, find this and re-lease it!!!!! Alex!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Under The Gun from Face To Face would be awesome! I would also love to see "Angel" by extended version by The Danse Society.

B-Movie - Remembrence Day 12" single would be excellent to have on RA cd. I love that song. Bow Wow Wow - Go Wild In The Country has a 12" Version.

Although I have all the songs on my previous list as well as the list below, on vinyl and have since transfered to CD, hearing that 1 of them will make it onto the next volume of Retro:Active interests me. These songs were all popular on WLIR and as far as I know were never commercially release on CD.

Here are others I'm hoping for:

Ink & Paper - Modern English
Love Cares - End Games
Ambition - Dalek I Love You
I Want You Back - Simon F
Touch (Part 3) - Secession
Michael (Extended Version) - Secession
Tighten Up (Special Extended Version) - Yellow Magic Orchestra
Around My Dreams (12" Vocal) - Silver Pozolli
Blue (Dance Version) - Fine Young Cannibals
Playback (7" Version) - Q
Wolfman Tap - Electric Guitars
Swear (LP Version) - Tim Scott
Best Years Of Our Lives (Reprise) - Modern Romance
Take Me To The Fire (7" Version) - This Island Earth
Walk Through The Fire (7" Version) - Peter Gabriel
Don't Say That's Just For White Boys (7" Version) - Way Out West
So Afraid Of The Russians (7" Version) - Made For TV
City For Lovers (7" Version) - Way Out West
Sexbeat - Sexbeat
