Sal Solo - Heart And Soul. CD, £9.50
(Label: Cherry Red, Cat.No: CDMRED311)

I thought this release deserved it's own thread. It can now be pre-ordered at www.freakemporium.com - here's the info:

"It was in the 1980s that Sal Solo came to prominence, being the lead singer, songwriter and producer ofClassix Nouveaux. The band had chart success at home and abroad and were renowned for their hardwork, performing all over the UK and extensively around the world. In 1983 Sal had become disillusioned with the record industry and had taken himself off to SanDamiano, in Northern Italy. It was there that he had a life-changing experience, he became happier withhimself, relaxed.Sal wrote and released a single called San Damiano which became a huge hit, not only in the UK butaround the world, even making it to number one in Poland. TV, radio and numerous press interviewsfollowed. This was a very different Sal Solo to the one the public had seen only a couple of yearspreviously.Music and You was the follow-up single in 1985. Sal asked The London Community Gospel Choir toguest on the record and together they appeared on various peak time television programmes.Sal appeared on quite a few British Sunday evening television programmes including The Rock GospelShow. It was Sal's manager, Falcon Stuart, who later said: "Sal is one of those rare artistes who isprepared to stand up and be counted both musically and morally."Includes 5 bonus tracks. Due In: 19/06/2006"[:D]

Not sure if anyone besides me has any interest in this release, but I have got hold of a track listing:

1. Heartbeat
2. Poland (Your Spirit Won't Die)
3. Shout! Shout!
4. San Damiano
5. Music & You
6. Contact
7. Go Now
8. Forever Be
9. Adoramus Te (Bonus Track)
10. Just A Feeling (Bonus Track)
11. How Was I To Know (Bonus Track)
12. Metanoia (Bonus Track)
13. Drift Away (Bonus Track)

I'm really pleased with this release. True, Cherry Red could have sourced some extended mixes, but I have to say I'm very happy that they have chosen to add some pretty rare bonus tracks, those being the B-Sides of the various singles and other later tracks included on the mega-rare Metanoia cassette. In particular I mentioned in an earlier thread that "Just A Feeling" would be a nice addition and "How Was I To Know" is also a great add-on.

Do ePay sellers just tag every record with "minimal synth" now in hopes somebody really ill-informed will just bid a lot of money on it? (Since all the minimal synth records seem to go for ridiculous sums of money there.)

This one cracked me up...

...wow, what a great minimal synth record. So, great, you can't even tell it's AOR!

That particular seller does mark everything "minimal synth", even if there is only 1 track on the album that has an electronic edge to it.

I hope that some of their listings, like the one you posted, are listed more as a joke than as trying to actually pass somethig off as minimal.

I have Joe Lamont's album. It's nice. The title track is great. There is not one second of it that even remotely qualifies as minimal synth. Even under the broadest definition of the term. (Like CBS would have had anything to do with an m.s. record in 1985.)

After looking at auction for the Regina album, I'm inclined to think (or at least hope) joke. Because that "Baby Love" was just a killer slice of minimalistic electronics, ya know.

If it's not, well, then he's getting duly punished by the complete lack of bids. Maybe the minimal synth fans are on to him!
