SIMPLE MINDS are planning a boxset of CD singles which is expected to be part of EMI's singles box series which has already released similar sets from DURAN DURAN and MADNESS. The set will contain a number of individual CD singles, each one containing the original single tracks, b-sides, 12" mixes and bonus tracks. The set is expected to be released by the end
of the year.

I wonder if this is why they canceled the other 3 disc box set with all the 12" versions.

Nice to have all 3 THEMES packages in one place. I wonder what 'bonus tracks' they will be

Oh great, after I got the Themes sets a couple of years back. Good thing they were gifts [:D]. Hope they do some of the older singles (pre-Virgin).
It's bound to be more than one box. The Duran boxes had 13/14 discs per, and the four Themes boxes totalled 20 discs.

Hope they are those cardboard sleeves like the Duran Duran ones.

Very good to hear. So the Platinum collection went bye-bye, is that confirmed? The Singles Box Sets will be nice to have, especially the first one. I hope they dig deep and put absolutely everything on them, just like the Duran 1st set. NICE.

Yeah, I think that is the highlight of the sets, the mini replica sleeves. I was so pissed that I dropped one of them and dented the corner.

Actually, they goofed on Careless Memories. The 12" version is slightly (and I mean slightly) longer that cuts off at the end instead of fading out.
They could have done more with the DD sets, such as put tracks like Planet Earth Night Mix that was on the Strange Behaviour remix compilation.

Obs,
Maybe you can answer a question for me since you put Mix in bold above. I was wondering if there are two "Night" mixes of "Planet Earth", one called the "Night Mix", the other the "Night Version".
If so, how can I tell which one I have to make sure it's tagged correctly? Length of song? I've lost the link to a great DD discography that explained in great detail the differences between LP and CD versions of some of their albums.

Yep, there's Planet Earth Night Version 6:20 (which is the version on the 12" single), and there is Planet Earth Night Mix 6:58 (where I have no idea where it came from originally ... seems it only appears on Strange Behaviour).
Night Mix is better. I didn't like that Night Version stripped out the guitar line and pumped up the bass synth instead.
Here's the site of the discog + a comparison of the various releases of Rio.

There use to be a great illustrated Duran discog by some chick called Kim or something. She closed it down and someone else was going to take over, but I don't think the new site ever materialized. Really sucks.
And back to Simple Minds, the Dream Giver site (probably the best Minds site out there) hasn't been able to confirm the singles boxset yet.

hopefully this works out - some years back there was already 4 boxsets of cd singles (Themes 1-4) - but they left out the early stuff. if it is done well, hm, I'll surely buy them. will for sure be an expensive year with all those re and rereleases...

Actually, after I made the same complaint above, I checked out Dream Giver and there's not a lot of earlier stuff that was missed in Themes, unless you're looking for b-sides. Celebrate was the only other single that had a 12".

totally true of course, not many things missing there, but it is kind of a completeness thing + it is nice to have it ALL on cd-singles then, hate to have these 85% things, the thing I didn't enjoy too much about the early Depeche Mode singles boxsets, you wouldn#t find all the versions on each maxi-cd and so on...

Yeah, agree about the DM thing. They should have included all the missing tracks when it was re-pressed/re-released with box 4/5/6.
I just think it would be funny/a_waste to have a CD single with only two 3-4 minute tracks [:)].
