Machinations

Machinations

Not sure if anyone has purchased the Machinations reissue on Almacantar, but it is unlike anything you've heard from them!

This was their first foray into a studio with hardly a dime in their pockets, and the songs are very surreal...very catchy...and very different!

Still, great stuff that I'm liking even more than the later recordings.

They sound more early Wall Of Voodoo than anything else. Rhythm machine, early synths, etc. Here is a medley of the tracks for your listening enjoyment....

I picked this up from A Different Drum ($10 + $2 shipping). It's still growing on me; I see that you get credit for "digital transferring".

Yes, I did do the digital transfer (thanks for noticing), but the music on this disc, albeit brief, is what encouraged me to mention it on the board.

Yes, it may take a few listens to really sink in, but the end result is that, at the core, Machinations were always a quirky, craetive outfit with great ideas. On later recordings, with bigger production and a change in style, the talent was apparent as well.
But this is where it all began and it's really fun to listen to.

Of course, I did get permission from Almacantar to post this medley. It gives just enough away without spoiling it for anyone.
