Hi,
I never purchased any of the DM remastered from last year. I check on Amazon & there are a few different versions. I`m looking for the remastered without the DVD`s & without the copy control because I don`t like keeping cds in my car, unless there cdr`s. What version doesn`t have the copy control? Any detail information would be great?
ps I noticed on Amazon that DM - Black Celebration is coming out on Apirl 13th 07 & it doestn`t contain the DVD & is on the Mute Label. There is no mention of any copy control. This is all just very confusing. If I can`t find the help here, I swear I`ll become a bed wetter & I don`t think anyone here would want that. j/k
Please Help. Thanks In Advance.

The US versions only come with the DVDs, and there is no copy control on the CDs. I've been buying the UK CD+DVD versions because the CDs in those are SACD hybrids. I thought they had released CD-only versions in the UK, but I haven't seen them. The UK CD+DVD sets that I have don't seem to have copy control on them.

For the price you'll pay to get the EU CD only releases, I would think that you're better off just getting the US pressings. Besides, I think the highlight of the earlier albums are the documentaries that are on the DVD, especially for the first two albums.
You can always ask the dudes at

Buying anything other than the euro SACD deluxe is a waste.

The final 2 have been bumped to early July. I know those aren't '80s albums, but I still want them. I rather like Ultra.

Does Ultra & Exciter really need to be remastered? They are quite new. I guess they just want to complete the process so they can release everything with a dvd. What they really need to do is release the rest of the videos that have never been released official on dvd.

I don't know if they will actually be remastered, but they will each receive the 5.1 treatment, to complete the reissue campaign. Of course, it would have been nice if they could have repackaged 101 in the same way, since they remastered that for 5.1 SACD in the UK a few years ago.

You've brought up a good point about "Exciter" and "Ultra" being remastered as well; when does the remastering stop? I can see how technology changes and the "state-of-th-art" sonics change, but how many times are we supposed to go out and buy reissued remasters? I will definitely pick up discs that really need the remastering treatment, but when will it all end? Even with DVDs!!! You'll buy a title when it first comes out, but then you're pressured into buying more copies that have better sound, better picture and deleted scenes. Hey, even now, they don't include the theatrical trailers for the films they release anymore.
So sorry about the tangent I went off on, but it does bother me how we are manipulated to buying, and then to keep on buying. Even with these Depeche Mode remasters, what, another five years and then we'll get the "limited edition" anniversary release with, yet better sound? Crazy indeed!!! But, I guess it depends on how hardcore fans we really are. Still, if something is done right the first time, it shouldn't have to be repeated ad nauseum.

Does anyone know if you can burn the songs from the DVD onto wave files or MP3/AAC files? I'm thinking probably not, which is what's keeping me from buying these. I pretty much only listen to my iPod now and it bugs me that the bonus tracks are only on the DVD. I figure I'll wait for the NEXT re-release where all the bonus tracks are on the CD.

Sure, it's possible.
On a Windows machine:
- rip/deCSS the DVD (I generally use DVD Decrypter)
- load the files in DVD2AVI (or whatever software) and extract audio to wave
- use your favourite compression software to convert
Only problem is that you'll have to cut the files into the different tracks.
Still, if something is done right the first time, it shouldn't have to be repeated ad nauseum.
Not necessarily. Technology improves, and so does the process to digitize music. What might be the best one can do back then may not be the best one can do now.
