Although I was surprised to see this CD, I can't say I'm overwhelmed by it. It has an acoustic sound to it, and most (if not all) of the songs are cover versions (kinda like what Berlin did with "4Play"), with 2 previous Naked Eyes hits being covered as well. I will have to say though that they do a very good version of Elvis Costello's "Man Out of Time".

sadly, there is no "they"- only a "he."
the keyboardist died back in the late 90's from surgery complications. sucks. i have always thought they were great.

why can't the 80s pop bands just stay away?

they are "new wave" by proxy, what with the "tears for fears" connection.

roland, kurt, rob and pete were in a band (that released some singles: collected on naked eyes "everything and more" cd of a few years ago) called "neon" circa 1981-ish. they broke up, the rest is history.

New wave by Proxy?
I'm very surprised to read people doubting Naked Eyes pedigree. Was it there popularity? I know they made some great music produced by Tony Mansfield(more New Wave by proxy?). Completely synth music with some lyrics verging on the dark.
New wave a term most artists found insulting at the time.
I don't really want to fight, but how do you get to be the authority on New Wave?

well, in a very grand and pompous ceremony i had the title bestowed upon me in 1993, and while it is mostly a title in name only, i still have to show up to certain events and fan conventions. this is fine when things occur here in the city, but i can't tell you how hard it is to lug the royal studded wrist bands and most holy tiger-stripe vans to every damn "ebn-ozn" gathering in the world.
and where did you get the idea i was trying to be the authority? not trying to start a fight, after all.

Very funny New Wave authority!
I've just noticed everyone on the site
trying to define what is new wave and what isn't.
It is a very loose term.

Wow, I have that cd too and I never noticed that. Gotta pull it out. Who sang lead vocals?
I was really sad when I heard about Rob passing away. I really loved Naked Eyes and knew that they would never be the same without him. Some of the coolest keyboard playing ever on those two Naked Eyes albums. Fortune & Fame and When The Lights Go Out are my favorites songs.

The main problem with Naked Eyes is that utterly dire remake of "Always". Their other hit ("Promises x 2") sucked too.
I haven't heard any of their other stuff. Is it any good?
In any event, 80s bands that reunite in the 00's NEVER churn out anything but dross.

if you aren't a fan of those two songs i'd pass them up- for me, the synth playing and programming was sweeeet ear candy; i had just picked up the synth and was noodling around on it as a pre-teen. they were state of the art back then, using the linn drums and polyphonic synths before lots of others did. they wrote perfect pop songs, and you either love that or not. i can see where they'd be considered pretty light-weight, but i love them. hell, burt bacharach said their "always something..." was one of his favorite versions, and he knows pop!
bottom line: like synths and sequencers and catchy choruses? give 'em a shot.

Obviously I disagree.
All New Wave is technically pop music
verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus
Also Punk, Heavy Metal, Cole Porter etc...
Almost no one experiments with this
All the rest is style

Anyway try;
When the lights go out
Fortune and Fame
Low Life
I could show you how
It might not have the great depth of HAIRCUT 100
or DEAD OR ALIVE(sarcasm) but give it a shot!!!
