American Beat Records is re-issuing the 1983 synthpop classic, with three bonus tracks: the extended mix of "I Wanted To Tell Her", a remix of "Revenge", and the unreleased track "A Walk In The Park".

Very cool! This is one of my favorite albums. There are two songs missing that could have been added as bonus material. "A Walk In The Park" was originally a b-side and it's good to see it on the CD release.

1. Work For Love (Extended)
2. I Wanted to Tell Her (Tongue-Tied Mix) This mix differs from the original 12" extended version

Also what is the 12" mix of "Revenge"? This must be an unofficial remix because I am not aware of any original 12" version from '83 but I could be mistaken.

"Same Old Madness" or "Cold Life" (7" edit) would have been my first choice for a bonus track.
Along with an interview by Richard Skinner from the "I Wanted To Tell Her" freebie cassette.
And DVD of live material plus the "Same Old Madness" and "Revenge" videos would be nice too.
There are several edits of the singles released from this album that could be included as well.
The remix of "Revenge" may not mean 12" mix. Could be the 3:35 length from the US promo 7"

Yeah, over on the Ministry board, there's been some questions about the Revenge remix (hopefully not some new mix). Gotta wonder if this is remastered from vinyl, too (maybe the mixes?). There's definitely a bunch of other mixes that could've easily made this a 2-disc affair, and yes, Same Old Madness would've been a nice addition. I have this information in a text file, courtesy of 'bisquitodoom' over at prongs.org/ministry regarding SOM:

"Taken from an unreleased EP to be released in mid-82. 1 was never released. 2 and 3 are the versions from With Sympathy. The versions on the 12" would probably have been different. This EP was also to have the track Never Asked For Nothing, but no studio version of this song has surfaced."

Interesting stuff. If you ever wondered who Ministry gigged with back in those days, here's a good bit from an interview with keyboardist Robert Roberts (who is a regular contributor on prongs.org/ministry):

Q: You guys played with many different bands in those days. I know of dates with Men Without Hats, Information Society, The Police, Flock Of Seagulls and I've heard of some others like Depeche Mode and Culture Club (the one everyone references). What other groups do you remember playing with? Any of them get along with you guys particularly badly/well?

Roberts: I think that Men Without Hats were on a bill with us once at the NMS. I already mentioned the Police and Culture Club gigs. Information Society, I don't recall. We did a couple of shows with Flock of Seagulls, I remember that we were playing out on Long Island and Mike Score took a $50 cab out to see us from the city. He hung out with us after the gig and took our tourbus back into the city with us the next day. He was a pretty quiet guy as I remember. Seems like we played quite a few gigs with Depeche Mode in NY. As I recall we were all staying at the Iroquois on 44th and both bands crammed into a van to go to soundcheck together. Dave Gahan didn't soundcheck with the band so one of their roadies would sing during soundcheck. It was quite funny, there was the band playing but a roadie singing, badly. But the roadie wouldn't let the fact that he couldn't sing deter him. He was giving it his all. (laughs) We had a good relationship with the Thompson Twins as well. Tom and Al were friends. The Thompson Twins and Ministry were both signed to Arista within weeks of each other so we were kind of "sister bands", as it were.

I remember that we got on well with Culture Club. They were a fun bunch, even their crew. I can't remember getting on badly with anyone, honestly.

Somone here must'[ve been reading my mind, as I was just about to ask if this would ever be "re-released"? I'm glad it will be, b/c now all those people shilling them on Ebay and elsewhere for high dollars due to them being "rare and OOP' will be mad, which I have no problem with. Im also looking forward to this release, as it's one of my favorite Ministry records. I still dont know why Al is so down on the record? it's a great disc, for the time.

What also surprises me about this release is...that they didnt make it a 2 cd set? I'm sure there were some live tracks, or other remixes/extendeds they couldve thrown on here to make it a 2 disc? Maybe even some of the videos? Just think they couldve done a better re-release. Like eighties said, they couldve included a bunch more stuff, really jazz it up.

Budget maybe. Cheaper to press single CDs and just squeeze what they can on the end.

I don't know if they had any room left on this disc but they should have really included the "Work For Love" 12 inch version on there.

If memory serves me right, wasn't there only 9 songs on the original? if thats the case, they have PLENTY of room to add other stuff, even w/the 3 extra tracks they're including. Personally, I think a second disc for this release wouldve been the best way to go, add the videos, maybe a live track or 3, and of course some of the remixes/12" ers. Hell, the Dead Or Alive "Sophisticated Boom Boom" re-release was almost 30 bucks, and I had no problems w/that price and buying it. Shouldve done the same for this.

Anyone know where the "Revenge" 12" mix comes from? I didn't think that was given a 12" mix, although Ministry seems to have a fairly deep vault of unreleased songs, so I'm not surprised if it was never issued...also, I thought there was a remix of "Effigy"?

Glad to see this being reissued, but I probably won't upgrade my beloved Arista CD...

No, that was the only video. Closest to that album was the promo video they shot for Same Old Madness in '82:

Not sure about the Revenge mix yet. It might be "Revenge (Stereo)" from the U.S. 7", but that version is 12 seconds shorter than the album version. I don't know of any official extended mixes or remixes that exist.

This is an unofficial DJ mix, with a 15-second drum machine intro, and some cut-n-paste action towards the end to extend the song to 5:24 (the LP version is 3:54). It's not very good or interesting, in my opinion. Sorry for the 128 kbps. I think I found this mix on Soulseek years ago.
