David Bowie Santa Monica '72

This live recording captures Ziggy Stardust at the peak of his glory.

"Previously unreleased, although a wildly popular bootleg, the October 20, 1972 concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium (Bowie's first U.S. Radio performance), was broadcasted by the now-defunct Los Angeles station KMET."

Why not?

If they're going to promote the official release by streaming it for free, I am happy to spread the word to those who want may to hear it. Those who prefer to buy a hard copy or download are still free to do so.

Since this is the "News and CD reissues" thread and Bowie had a major influence on New Wave music and the artists therein , I can't think of a more appropriate place. Should you wish to have this posted elsewhere, I can send you the code and you can have at it.

For each person that would actually whine about this contribution to the NWO Board, there remains an opportunity for many others to actually enjoy it.

well, that settles it then. you sure got me, ouch!
or, i mean, ouch.
i look forward to further posts from you, for artists like t. rex and alice cooper and the new york dolls and roxy music; they sure had a hand in influencing the new wavers of the 80's. oh, then we can put up their influences. and then their influences! pretty soon we'll be listening to vivaldi on here. can't wait! and bravo to your knowledge of music history!

Yes, Vivaldi fits right in here. Just look at that sneer- reminiscent of a young Johnny Rotten.

<img src="http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:OWWS5kQhGsD0YM">

Then there's Bach, who, according to Wikipedia, boasted "a robust contrapuntal technique" (I think they meant contraPUNKtual) and "an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation in composition for diverse musical forces, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad"- just like much of early 80s New Wave!

And don't even get me started on Mozart- he would have dismissed The Clash as hopeless poseurs, been at the center of every mosh pit and then trashed his hotel room beyond recognition.

Yes, this definitely is not something new. I bought this cd back in 1995. Probably will pass on this version even if it is remastered. And I think this board can accomodate someone like Bowie. Even though he may not be exactly new wave, he certainly is one of the main influences. That reminds me of a t-shirt I saw back in the early 80's, it said "There's Old Wave, there's New Wave, and then there's David Bowie".

where i was misunderstood was that i didn't think bowie belongs here. that is far from the truth. without him there would be no duran duran for god's sake (take that as you will). no, i was making a point that while bauhaus did indeed do a cover of "ziggy stardust" i don't know why a live ziggy show should be here in this section. on this site? sure! but this section tends to skew towards flock of seagulls re-issues and the like. bowie is a personal hero of mine, and influenced a lot of my musical tastes. but if it ain't "low/lodgers/scary monsters"-era bowie it should go elsewhere. that's all.

I still like your idea about Vivaldi:

No Bowie?
No New Wave
No Goth
No New Romantic
No post-punk
No synthpop
No entire British music scene from the late seventies to mid eighties! Sid Vicious was a huge Bowie fan. Bands from Joy Division, Foxx-era Ultravox, Numan, Banshees, Bauhaus, Human League. Somebody stop me, 'cuz I'm gonna list every band you know!

Thanks Marv.

Seems like the more I look, the more I find!

Not sure about the confusion over the Bowie 72 release. Many websites claim it is previously unreleased but other people claim it was out already.

Happy Listening.
