This week Cherry Red is releasing the long unheard unreleased 2nd LP by The Photos called "Crystal Tips and Mighty Mice." The album was recorded as the follow-up to the band's self-titled release, described as a cross between Blondie and the Buzzcocks, but ultimately got squashed.

Hope Cherry Red sourced it from master tapes and not vinyl, since they have a habit of releasing noisy vinyl CD's. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I just don't buy anything from them anymore without hearing about the quality first. It's a shame you have to do this, but they've given themselves this reputation.

Their description says sourced from the original master tapes, so hopefully the sound will be good. My copy is on it's way so I will report back about the sound.

This is one of my projects, and I can confirm it was definitely restored from the original masters.

I am looking forward to receiving my copy. I sure hope it's restored from the original masters. The bonus material on the first Photos release was poor vinyl transfers and whoever was behind the project did not do a very good job of hiding it.

I received an advance copy of the CD, and I can tell you it is from masters, and sounds pretty good. That being said, I'm a part time Photos fan. Their weak point is really in the chorus of the song; many songs that start really well fall into dull and uncatchy choruses, and I mean that for both albums. There are 3 standout tracks for me, one which the band do not have any fondness for:
Life in a day
Wish you well
We'll win
There are some others that are pretty good, but they are primarily confined to the bonus tracks. If the choruses were not so weak, they could have been a great band.
