LAME. Just got the news from The Ideal Copy. Japanese reissues of the first 4 albums in mini LP sleeves. NO bonus tracks. So much for finally getting all the 12" versions from Youthquake, Mad, Bad... and Nude on CD...

Yeah this just doesn't make any sense at all. A few years back Japan had that complete 12" set ready to release on CD and pulled the plug at the last minute. They are sitting on a goldmine. Makes you wonder if there are ANY music FANS in any position at these record companies that have any clue what buyers want. I would have happily shelled out $50 for a 12" collection on CD, but will not buy any of these album-only reissues regardless of price. Hmmmm $50 or $0. Boy, that $0 sure looks pretty!!!!! ;-)

It's obvious why that 12" collection was cancelled--because it was PERFECT. It had like 2 versions of ALL their singles, which would have made it possible to get rid of almost ALL my vinyl 12" singles. Thanks to compilations like Retro Active, I've finally been able to get a majority of my DOA 12" singles on CD, but I still have a handful left that need to hit digital. If only every compilation didn't feel the need to include the Murder Mix of You Spin Me Round instead of something RARE, we could have all DOA material on CD once and for all. I had such high hopes for all expanded reissues after the reissue of Sophisticated Boom Boom, which was nearly flawless in its bonus track selection...

this was the tracklist of the cancelled japanese 12" collection, if anyone was wondering:

<DISC1>
1 you spin me round - murder mix
2 lover come back to me - extended version
3 my heart goes bang - 12" wipe-out mix
4 brand new lover - up ducky mix
5 something in my house - US wipe-out mix part 2
6 i'll save you all my kisses - the long wet sloppy kiss mix
7 turn around and count 2 ten - the pearl and dean i love BPM mix
8 come home with me baby - 12 inch version
9 baby don't say good bye - club mix

<DISC 2>
1 you spin me round - performance mix
2 lover come back to me - extended remix
3 my heart goes bang - extended remix
4 brand new lover - the dust monkey's love bubble club mix
5 something in my house - mortevicar mix
6 i'll save you all my kisses - the sonia mezumbda memorial mix
7 turn around and count 2 ten -remade remodelled mix
8 come home with me baby - deadhouse dub mix
9 baby don't say goodbye -cheers vocal mix

yep, that would have tied up a lot of loose ends, save a few instrumentals and dub mixes- strange though that no "in too deep" or "hooked on love" mixes are here; i could have done without some "nude" era stuff for those. ah well. sad that this didn't get a release, especially after the stellar "sophisticated boom boom" release.

Yeah--surprising about In Too Deep not being on that planned package. Surprising the 12" version hasn't ever appeared on any new wave compilations at this point. The pearl and dean i love BPM mix of Turn Around and Count to Ten is actually on an import version of "Rip It Up" as a bonus track, not segued like the rest of the songs. And several of the Nude remixes appear to be the same ones that are actually on the "Nude: Remade Remodelled" CD. Even so, this 2-disc set could have indeed been a treasure. Either that, or rerelease their 2nd, 3rd and 4th CDs with all the remixes as bonus tracks!

..and the "nude" mixes are on cd singles i think- hard to find, sure. but digital at least. everything else not so much. i particulary like the "flamenco" version of "something in my house"- it's instrumental, but really great and driving. i liked that "evolution" comp that came out a few years ago- it had strange edits of some of the original mixes, which didn't confound me like it could have. i was glad to hear some punchy "new" mixes of stuff-

At this point, I mostly want on CD the US 12" of Baby Don't Say Goodbye, the 12" of In Too Deep, and the mix from the Something in My House 12" that has the samples of Regan from the Exorcist (i think it's the mortevicar mix on side 2). By far my favorite mix of that song. The 12" mixes of I'll Save You All My Kisses would be nice, but I'm not a big fan of that song in general.

You think they cancelled the 12" collection because they wanted to include the 12" tracks on the album releases. So why did they cancel this collection again? I was ready to buy that thing and was so disappointed when they didn't release it. Same goes for the Simple Minds 12" collection.

the Simple Minds cancellation was another disappointment. But I ended up getting that ridiculously priced singles box, so I'm pretty much tapped out on Simple Minds.

I remember when the Eurythmics reissues were first announced, it took like, what? A year and a half before they were FINALLY released??? And what a disappointment those were. The bonus tracks were so disappointing.

Looks like this could be another situation where Sony Japan teases a release and then cancels it - we're now getting indications that the remastered albums have been pulled for now in favor of straight reissues (no Mini-LP sleeve, either). hopefully we can get confirmation soon.

i remember being happy with the bonus tracks, but wishing there had been some other harder to find stuff- like the other "savage" era remixes, or other b-sides from "sweet dreams" and "touch"- the covers were fine and all, but wasted space. and the inclusion of those 1991 mixes on "sweet dreams"? ghastly.

my biggest Eurythmics wish is the 12" of "who's that girl" on CD.

And I also discovered that you can get the full length 12" of "Turn Around and Count to Ten" (The pearl and dean I love BPM mix) on a reissue of "Rip It Up". It's a bonus track that isn't continuously mixed like the other tracks, and it's the full length mix, which is ridiculously expensive on CD single if you can find it. A strange addition to the set considering it's not a SAW mix.

Someone had mentioned in another Dead Or Alive post that there's rumours of 2cd re-issues coming.
