The Sound - All Fall Down

The Sound - All Fall Down

Postby Jefe » Sat Jul 25, 2009 2:37 am

Since it's not readily apparent when or if The Sound's catalog will be re-issued, I went ahead a got a copy of All Fall Down on e-Bay. I got it cheap since it is sold without the cardboard sleeve which it originally came in. I was wondering if anyone had a high quality scan of the sleeve front and back that they could make available so I can try to make my own.

Go to Google, do an image search, ADVANCED, enter The Sound All Fall Down and your choices for good artwork will be many.

Thanks for your help. That's a valuable function of Google which I never knew about. Unfortunately there are no large images yielded by the search. The largest one was 300 x 300. The sleeve artwork which I have for Jeopardy is 2194 x 794.

Is that from casette or 8-track? [:o)]

If you can't do any better, here's one that's just short of 1000x1000, no back...

Thanks for the album art Blir.

Funny you said that. I was just snickering at someone offering a copy of Blondie's Autoamerican on e-Bay in 8-track format.

Are these guys any good? care to share a track or 3 from them? If it's good, I may have to pick this up as well?

Maybe :30 snippets of the entire album?

Their first three discs are all out of print (Jeopardy, From The Lion's Mouth, & All Fall Down) and are going for big bucks on e-Bay or Amazon. I passed up the opportunity to get Jeopardy and From The Lion's Mouth for under $50 each a few months ago and have regretted it ever since. Maybe Renascent will regain the license and put these back in print someday. If you're still listening to vinyl these titles are still available for considerably less.
I'm guessing Blir is right but if not try this first:

PS : do not buy the Renascent re-issue of Jeopardy / Live Instinct. The cd was mastered from vinyl (both the Jeopardy lp and the Live Instinct 12" (or 7")).

Considering Renascent's website hasn't been updated in over a year, I doubt if any reissues, to say nothing of that oft-promised B-sides and rarities collection from The Sound will be forthcoming from this label. A shame.

All Fall Down is my favorite Sound record, their artsy, obtuse and dense response to their record label for wanting them to be more commercial. "Monument" is majestic, "Red Paint" rocks, and "Glass and Smoke" is the album's centerpiece, even though it's a total ripoff of the Stooges song "Fun House".

Is this not the only version available on CD?

The Sound were one of the most criminally underrated bands of the post-punk era. Needless to say, if you like Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Chameleons, Sad Lovers and Giants, Psychedelic Furs, Modern English, B-Movie and The Comsat Angels, this band is for you.

Other bands of note that were criminally underrated and in the same vein, were Lowlife, The Snake Corps, Abecedarians & For Against.

The Sound still have one CD in print - Thunder Up, their final album.
