argh. These collections are getting ridiculous. At least half of these songs are on the 4-disc set Original 80s remix, and many of them are also on numerous other compilations. There are a couple of new finds, but how many times are we going to spend big bux on 4-discs worth of mostly rehashes? Meanwhile, the disc cover says 72 tracks and 6 CDs, and the track listing only shows 48 tracks on 4 discs. So maybe there are some more gems to be found on the other two discs.

It's certainly worth buying and a for a tenner that's a good price. Only thing being and budaniel mentioned it is that the vast majority of these mixes have been used on other compilations and using modern remixes just doesn't work in the case of Simple Minds where they could have quite easily stuck on the original 12inch mixes. Why Christian By China Crisis is on there is anybody guess they must be trying to pass this of as a 12 inch mix they way they used to keep doing with Wishful Thinking.

It is a very mixed bag.

The strengths of the Retro Active series is that tought goes into it.

You can listen to it without skipping tracks.

oh well. The track lists for the last 2-discs didn't make it any better. Pretty much ALL of that stuff has been on CD already.

Aren't a lot of these remixes actually from the 1990s? And someone please tell me that "Diddy's 12" mix" of "Atomic" isn't what I think it is.

Heh. I have a poster of Debbie Harry(under the name Blondie) that advertises the diddy mix of Atomic.

Are these worthwhile remixes, or is it just the same tired old formula for mixes where they stretch out the intro, play the main title vocal, then play the song, and near the end, studder the vocals?

no, the diddy mix was done in the mid-90s on the Blondie: Remixed, Remade Remodeled CD, or whatever it was called. The entire album was hardhouse/progressive/deep house mixes mixed by popular dance remixers of that time.

I wonder what 12 inch version of We Close Our Eyes by Go West they have put on this. I hope it's the Total Overhang Mix that was on the original 12 inch and on the recent The Original 80s Remix Box Set and not the Total Overhang Club Mix which was on Bangs & Crashes.Need to wait for track times or sound samples to be certain. If it is the Total Overhang Mix obviously that has been mastered from vinyl so why couldn't they do that with more mixes that haven't been released on cd before instead of the vast majority of mixes on this that have appeared on other compilations numerous times. Yeah and Original Hits 80s 12" with five 90s mixes on it go figure.

What does it have later club mixes of Simple Minds mixed in with 80's mixes, that is kind of strange.

I noticed on other compilations they keep using the 90s mixes of the Simple Minds and Heaven 17 tracks to name but two. Must be something to do with licensing is all i can think of then again i don't think Simple Minds are too keen on releasing there original 12 inches after they put the block on this http://www.simpleminds.org/sm/discog/tpc/tpccd1.htm buggers.

It can't be licensing as Simple Minds and Heaven 17 80s 12" mixes appear often enough on compilations. Can only think it's a mistake or the price is too low for Simple Minds and Heaven 17 to allow their best mixes onto the album. Either way EMI just seemed to have trawled their catalogue for 12" mixes by 80s artists and thrown them onto 6 CDs in no particular order...
