Well,I think it fits right in since the Span boys are now in their late 40's / early 50's,with a more updated contempoary feel & groove to the song.

How disappointing that the "new" album is going to be primarily re-worked versions of their old songs. I guess there are going to be two new ones but mostly just acoustic versions of classics. Will I still get it? Oh sure. But I'd prefer a NEW album.

That "Leave" redo is a joke. I couldn't care less about a "new" album. Few if any major 80s acts who have reformed in the last 10 or so years have produced anything worthwhile. Life's too short to bother listening to this kind of stuff.

"watered down"?, a "joke"?

What were you expecting, Rock and Roll? This is Spandau Ballet! They are and always have been a lounge act or should I say, "cheesy listening".

I say that with the utmost of admiration. I LIKE the new version- great arrangement, digging the violins, Hadley's understated vocals (until the crescendo at the end). It's all I would expect from a band that has had 25 years to polish up! More depth in this version than the original.

Of course if they put out a new album that sounded just like their old stuff people would rip them for not evolving, being played out and stuck in the 80s!

I agree with you DJ Craig, 100% !! The songs sound even better this time around with a much more "mature" sounding vibe that fits in with the guys ages.
Like they said in the video clip, don't be surprised that the new versions of their songs could be hits again a 2nd time around.

I'm sure in Europe and especially in the UK they will be. Hope the boys plan a tour to the states.

Interesting article here on late 70s early 80s London, the rise of The New Romantics and Spandau:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/oc ... -romantics

"Two weeks after release, their first single, To Cut a Long Story Short, entered the charts and reached No 5. It was danceable, melodic and the vocalist could sing. As cult sounds went, this was unique. They called their new genre "White European Dance Music".

Within weeks of Spandau's hit, Britain's clubbing grapevine put yet more clubland bands into the charts, many unveiled by sharp young managers the same age as the talent. In the Blitz slipstream, a dynasty of 35 new-look acts charted during 1981 alone, including Visage, Ultravox, Duran Duran, the Human League, Heaven 17, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Toyah, Blue Rondo, ABC. That this was one of the most fertile years for British pop since the 60s was visible in the Top of the Pops Christmas shows a year apart. As 1980 closed, the Angel Boys leapt from the screen as the only act playing new music. By Christmas 1981, TOTP was given a sparkling neon-tech setting and a demented dance troupe called Zoo. That year Spandau were but one among a phalanx of visual shockers from the Human League to Soft Cell."

Here's a brand new link that features 6 snipits (including the new single "Once More") to Spandau Ballet's new album due out in Nov,09.
This new "Acoustic Sound" really makes the old hits sound brilliant !!!
Don't be suprised the old hits are new hits a 2nd time around, especially in the U.K. & Europe.

Here's some Youtube links previewing Spandau Ballet's new album along with brand new interviews & some live performances.
I think Spandau Ballet sound better "Live" today in 2009/10 than they ever did back in the day, especially with the more mature/acoustic sound to their music now.

I'm going to take back what I said earlier - I bought the CD last week and it's fantastic. After watching some of those live clips I'm totally fired up to see them in concert now. Hope they make it to the U.S.!
