The Cure will reissue its 1989 masterwork Disintegration in an expanded and remastered 3CD edition next spring, Robert Smith announced today, the first salvo in what appears to be a flood of new archival releases from the legendary band — including the first-ever DVD release of 1987’s long-out-of-print “In Orange” concert film.

Good news but the rarities disc is bollocks--no 12" versions or b-sides?

Well there is a mention of a Mixed Up 2 there so hopefully that will include all the original 12 inch mixes. As for the b sides i'm sure they were on that Join The Dots box set even so i would rather still have them than a bunch of crappy demo versions which you will probably listen to once. Waste of a disc in my opinion.

Agreed. Before the internet and easy access to things, I had ripped a clean audio version off a brand-new VHS tape. That rip has since been lost, though.

IN ORANGE ON DVD - FINALLY. I'm very happy with the Disintegration news, but I agree it's unfortunate the 12" versions are missing from disc 2. The home demos on the previous re-issues were an interesting curiosity, but the quality is so dodgy that I rarely listen to them. I thought for sure the extended mixes would be on that bonus disc. I'm excited about the expanded Entreat, I always enjoyed those live versions, though it's a shame the whole concert wasn't made available, and he obviously has the tapes from that gig. Good news, regardless.

14 out of 20 bonus tracks being instrumentals is a real snooze.

I am quite sure the 12" veersions (let's not forget: they haven't included any of them so far on the rereleases) will be released in one way or the other (sometime ago, a possible Mixed Up deluxe was mentioned...).
Entreat was recorded over 3 nights at Wembley 1989 - would be a 4 disc set if those shows compiled were released and include every song being played during those nights - obviously I would be in for it as well, but this is probably a bit unrealistic to expect...
Looking forward to In Orange + hope even though I think the production and filming of Show is not very enjyable, that they at least add some bonus tracks that were played during both gigs + not only those that were included on the VHS version,

I'd have to agree with you, that there must be talk or chances of a future "Mixed Up" re-release w/bonus mixes, and the 12" extendeds? that'd be the ONLY way IMHO, that they could pull that off. That should've been done however with this re-release. I would imagine, not too many folks will be buying this release? At least I won't be. I read a ways back about a "mixed up" re-release and all, and figured, that'd be the most marketable(and profitable) way to re-release it. I'm hugely disappointed with this news though. I think the 3 disc version of this(mostly the inclusion of the shitty demo's/live tracks) is a real downer. This is my favorite Cure album ever, and they had to ruin it.

Yeah I have to agree as well. Disintegration is definitely in my top 5 albums of all time. What I would want to buy would be a two disc set, with the remastered original album plus a bonus disc of single edits, extended mixes and the B-Sides, which were mostly of a high quality, if I remember. What's so weird about that?

here's my take: i can't wait for a remastered disintegration - one of my absolute fave cure albums! the second disc? so-so, like most of the rest of the cure reissues that had bonus discs comprised of demos. something's better than nothing to me. the third disc? all for a deluxe expanded version of entreat! as for b-sides, i've already got the b-sides box (and most of you whining probably do too i'll bet), and the lost original 12" mixes up to that point (1990) will hopefully show up on mixed up 2 - think positive! i've heard robert smith HATES concert: the cure live, but i hope that's not true as for me it's THE best cure album (and i generally hate compilations and live albums), one of the best ever live albums and one of the best albums ever made! I would love it if they did a deluxe remastered of it as a 2 CD + DVD set, or something of that nature! The Cure at the top of their game in my book!

Not "whining",so much as complaining about the lack of sales this will generate(or wont). Pretty much everyone's in agreement(from what i can tell) that the "demo" discs, were a bad way to go with these Cure releases? why not just give the fans what they REALLY want? extended's/ original 12" mixes like you said< and "Mixed up" as the 3rd disc, as thats what it was created for? Plus, Mixed Up is in dire need of a remaster IMO. Robert could've redeemed himself with a bad ass Disintegration re-release...but instead, we get the same old same old.
Makes no sense this re-release as it is currently, IMO.

No doubt this will be compressed to hell like the previous remasters have been. I have no doubt to get the DVD you will have to buy the super deluxe edition which will probably cost in excess of £20 which seems to be the trend now. On the subject of the b sides and as a few people have pointed out they do appear on the Join The Dots box well Duran Duran seem to be putting everything that has appeared on their singles box sets on their remasters so there is no excuse why The Cure couldn't have done this as well instead of wasted discs full of crappy demo versions and i mean crap some of them are barely even listenable. Let's just hope this rumour of there being a Mixed Up 2 being released is true.
