Well The Robots Dance wasn't on Liberty so no problem there - it was on ESP records [:D]

less all the 12" versions as well, no? This is a one disc set of singles it looks like. No 12" mixes at all.

That's true... one disc set, this time!

Maybe we will see the cd with remixes during the 2010. ;)

Hi.

Could you tell something more about the sound quality, the booklet, etc?

Thanks

Sound is generally fine, but varies from track to track. To my ears Nasty Little Green Men seems a bit bass heavy.

Booklet has commentary from Sal about most of the tracks (although "I don't remember much about this one" crops up a bit), pictures of most of the picture sleeves (except Never Never Comes for some reason).

Some of the b-sides / 12" mixes have "additional mastering" (i.e. vinyl ripping) credits.

A Customer Review:

There are several things a record label needs to do when releasing another 'Best Of' collection. Include all the hits, throw in some previously unavailable on CD tracks, get band involvment and package it well. And try not to duplicate what has come before. And on this release Cherry Red have surpassed their already high standard and have made this collection absolutely essential for any Classix fan.
Firstly, it looks good. Replicating the artwork style of the early singles it's packaged in a nice jewel case with an eight page booklet. This features a track-by-track commentary from no less than Sal Solo himself, together with illustrations of the original single sleeves and release details. All beautifully designed and laid out.
Secondly, not only are all the singles and 7" b-sides included but several see their CD debut here. The much missed b-sides 'Chemin Chagrin', 'Manitou (Instrumental Version)' and 'Switch' (one of my favourites) - and neglected from the 'Secret' album reissue, finally appear. As do the extended versions of 'Inside Outside', 'Never Again (The Days Time Erased)' and 'The End... Or The Begining'. Care has even been taken not to duplicate the previous two 'Best Of's by ommiting 'Is It A Dream (Extended Version)' and the other 'Guily' b-side 'The Robots Dance (New Version)'. All have been mastered perfectly and sound fantastic.
I haven't seen a better laid out and compiled CD in a long time. The care taken here simply radiates and shows just what can be achieved when the people involved actually care about the music.
So, if you're a fan or if you fancy a taste of Classix Nouveaux's greatest moments, then this CD is THE one to buy. And to all at Cherry Red - "thank you".

Mastered perfectly? Not from what I've heard. Vinyl...

Can someone refresh my memory on Secret, songwise as well as the Chery Red mastering job? Take into consideration that it has to be really bad for my ears to notice. Thanks in advance.

songs: all around the world, manitou, heart from the start, fire inside, forever and a day, never never comes, the unloved, when they all have gone, no other way.

CD has no bonus tracks, and it was entirely mastered from vinyl. I thought it was a bad job, and others have commented similarly. nice booklet though...

Yes, the Secret album was remastered from vinyl. I bought the CD and I was a little bit disappointed with the sound quality of "Fire Inside" and "Forever And A Day" tracks. Another thing... why Cherry Red didn´t respect the original vinyl artwork, the back part, wich is completely different from the CD reissue?

I give 3 in 5 to the reissue of Secret album, because I like very much the CN music.
