Holy crap! I suggested this to Wounded Bird years ago, and it's finally coming out! Available now on their site and at retail on January 26. More pop than new wave, but definitely lots of synths, particularly on the opening track "Don't Call It Love." This album was released in the US in 1986 and features the single "Angel In My Pocket."

The main members of the group worked with Alanis when she was a Canadian "pop diva" before she went "alternative." They morphed into Sal's Birdland in 1995, and then Artificial Joy Club in 1997, with an alternative rock sound. The single "Sick & Beautiful" did decent on alternative radio, and I think they played second stage on Lolapalooza that year.

Wow, this is really cool. This is one of those albums that I thought would be a long shot to be on cd. I will be picking this one up. Thanks for the news Surly.

I have hope for the Slow Children and A Drop In The Grey albums being released now. [:)]

Awesome that it's being re-released, but my only disappointment is that it's on Wounded Bird. They rarely dip into the possibility of expanded reissues. This album garnered quite a few 12" mixes, and it would have been great to have them all finally on CD as bonus tracks. Bummer.

Actually, in this case, blame the label. If you look at the Wounded Bird reissues from the Sony vaults, such as The Bangles, they have tons of bonus tracks. But when they license from Rhino (Warner Bros, Atlantic, Elektra, Reprise), they can't do bonus tracks. That's because Rhino treats an album with bonus tracks as a compilation, which means they charge Wounded Bird a lot more (or rather, make the guarantee higher) than if it's just a straight reissue. The fact that this contains the "cassette mix" of one song is a surprise - maybe they treated it like a reissue of the cassette to avoid the bonus track charges. That's why the Kissing The Pink reissue contained the "Naked" album and the self-titled EP, despite the fact that tracks were duplicated. If they just reissued "Naked" and tacked on the songs from the EP that weren't on the album, it would have been a compilation, but if it was "2 albums on one," then the cost (guarantee) was lower. So, again, blame Rhino for the lack of bonus tracks.

pretty sad that Rhino has all these artists in their vaults and don't release the stuff themselves. Man, remember when Rhino was an awesome label that really brought hard to get stuff to CD at last???

This is already available. I have mine for at least two weeks now. They also reissued the album by the band Keep It dark as well as the unreleased album by Great Buildings. Amazing!
