Another John Foxx release in 2010:
http://blog.thequietman.co.uk/

On 3 May, 2010 Demon/Edel will release a new John Foxx Best Of, Metatronic (30th Anniversary Collection) which features a selection of his darker electro tracks from the last three decades (along with rare and unreleased versions!?) and also includes, for the first time on DVD, the videos for ‘Underpass’, ‘No One Driving’ and ‘He’s a Liquid’.

I'm guessing this isn't going to have all the 12" mixes that everyone was hoping for on CD...

Exactly! The "Metamatic" era tracks would be a real treat for that reissue (and there was a lot of space to include them). Strange choice, but I think John (or his crew) are trying to milk the renewed interest in his work as much as possible. Which is, umm, not too fair, to say the least.

Oh and it's another one (2nd or 3rd) compilation of his works in a couple of years!

Underpass (extended) sounds like a bit of con, as it's prob the LP version, I don't think there was any other extended version around.

I guess it's previously unreleased. John has proved to have quite some unreleased stuff in his archives.... /JE

Actually there WAS an extended version of "Underpass" released - the one that lasts for 4 min. 25 sec., on the compialtion album "This is New Virgin Pop" from 1980. I have an mp3 of it, lots of those fantastic electronics for additional 30 sec. or so comparing to the LP version[:)] This seems to be the one that's going to be released on Metatronic.

Strange, it's listed here
http://www.metamatic.com/zDiscdocs02/201244.html
but as 3 min 21 sec only!

The DVD quality is very variable. He's A Liquid looks awful, like it was taken from YouTube, lots of distortion of the picture at the bottom of the screen [:(]

You may have a duff copy - have been watching it and there is no visual distortion on 'He's A Liquid' on my copy. There are a few very brief audio dropouts for some reason on 'No One's Driving'.

For packaging enthusiasts (and I know you are out there) this release comes in one of those 'double album' CD jewel cases, like the recent Arcadia 'So Red The Rose' re-issue. Sorry, they are not popular I know. The sleeve design is great though, if you dig the Foxx aesthetic.

The tracklisting on the final version is slightly different from the one that was published earlier in this thread (No One Driving (Single Version) is NOT included and a few tracks shift positions and between discs), so for the sake of reference here is the tracklisting as per the actual release;

Tracks
1. Underpass (Extended Version)
2. This City
3. No One Driving (un-noted, but is the album Version)
4. Burning Car
5. The Noise
6. Everyone
7. When It Rains
8. Automobile
9. Broken Furniture (Single Version)
10. Drive (Single Version)
11. Once In A While
12. From Trash
13. Never Let Me Go
14. Smokescreen
15. Cinemascope
16. Phone Tap
17. Smoke

Disc 2:
Live In Sydney 2008
1. Crash And Burn
2. Uptown / Downtown
3. The Man Who Dies Everyday
4. Hiroshima Mon Amour
5. Underpass
6. From Trash
7. Shadow Man
8. My Sex
Bonus tracks:
9. Burning Car (Early Version)
10. Underpass (Mark Reeder's Sinister Subway Mix)
11. Dislocated (Jussi Pekka's Pointed On A Map Remix)
12. 20th Century (Dub terror vs Karborn mix)

DVD:
1. Underpass (B&W Version)
2. He's A Liquid
3. No-One Driving
4. Smokescreen
5. Underpass (Mark Reeder's Sinister Subway Mix)
6. The Noise (VH1 session)
7. Shifting City (Live in 1998)
Not credited on the packaging, but on the DVD:
8. Underpass (5.1 Surround Sound Mix) (audio only)

[/quote]Totally agree, the distortion at the bottom of the screen on He's A Liquid is a disgrace, how this passed quality control is beyond me.
